Unhappy Clutch problems.

Short description of my problem. Is here...http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...com%26rnum%3D8

I have an 85 Si, and the clutch was acting up sort of...I would press on the clutch and not be able to shift into first gear. I would have to stomp the clutch pedal all the way to the floor.

I adjusted the clutch cable (tighter) and it worked for a bit, then the problem came back.

Finally it got so bad I couldn't shift unless I turned it off and put it in gear, then turned it on...

When I did that, even with my foot on the clutch, it would not disengage as long as it was in gear and the starter would have to move the car forward until the engine managed to take over.

So I replaced the clutch, the pressure plate, and the throwout/release bearing.

I put it all back together and I still can't shift. And now I have no clutch (pedal) pressure. HELP!

I got a 87 CRX about 6 months ago and have been slowly working on it, the clutch was out so we replaced that then the clutch still didnt seem to work properly then we replaced the clutchcable, and couldnt tightin it down all the way, after further inspection we fount out that under neth the dash where the clutchcable sits and the goes into the petal well that bracket had snaped at the welds, just fixed that and now its runs purfectly, you might wanna check that

I know it took me a long time to respond...I checked down there initially, and something is up down there...but there's nothing broken. I just know that whenever I let pressure off of the pedal, it does not come all the way back up. And also, right after that, I'm able to pull the cable from inside the engine compartment (like pull it back to where it should be so the pedal goes up again.

I dont' know what's up...if I did replace that bracket, where would I find the replacement?

I have no idea where you would find a replacement for that bracket, its not easy to pull it out though, since you have to remove a lot of stuff to get at it, also when i fixed mine i just welded it back together

Re: Clutch problems.

I wanted to thank you again for your posts, you were so right about what to check. I finally found the problem you described. I guess I didn't know how to look for what you were talking about. Somehow, today, I was looking at where the cable meets the bracket behind the firewall, because I thought the circular metal piece needed to be held by the firewall, and I noticed it, the bracket that was loose with the broken welds. I couldn't see the welds, but I could tell it was loose. I guess it took two months of trial and error to understand how this cable clutch system works, now I see why it wasn't working properly. It's so crazy but it's good to have the problem identified. I removed the pedal bracket (thank god I didn't have to remove the dash like rumors I heard about 88-91 civics...) and I'm looking now to find a place that can weld it back together for me. Thanks so much!!
