Unhappy Transmission/Clutch Problem?

I have an '89 325is with a 5 speed and it has about 117,000miles on it. The car makes a rattling noise (I believe from the transmission area). This noise goes away when the clutch is pressed down, then it come back as soon as the clutch is released. The noise is almost non-existent when the car is first started, but becomes audible when the car is warmed up. What could be wrong and how much will it cost to fix it? Any thoughts? Your help is much appreciated!

Sound like what Ive got.

This was not an easy thing to solve. I found a small metal piece that had been sheared off in the casing. And Im in the process of purchasing a new flywheel. About $700.00 OUCH! This was where the rattle was coming from for sure. Ill fill you in when I get the part installed.
