Transmission knocks when warm

First, let me say I love my Jeep..will always drive one from now on. Only one problem...after it is warmed up, I will drive reverse, then put it in "drive" to move forward and the transmission clunks into gear. I have asked at the dealer and they have not seemed to concerned. It is still on warrenty until I get to 100,000 so I would like to get it fixed asap but want to go to the dealer as an informed jeep owner. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Transmission knocks when warm

go to another jeep dealer, any jeep dealer should honor your 100,000 mile warranty on the drivetrain.. it may just require them to tweak your ECU, or might involve putting a camera in the tranny to scope out what the possible culprit might be... Another question is have you drained and replaced your Automatic tranny fluid anytime in the last year? I'd check the fuild levels, and take it upon myself to change the tranny fluid.. you can get ATF fluid just about anywhere... just have to look in your manual where to drain, and refill the fluid.. Automatics have to have their fluid changed every year or so... good practice to keep up..

Mine just started doing the same thing. Sounded like a universal joint hitting something when shifting into drive or reverse. Did everything trying to find out what was hitting because it sounded like a drive train problem.

While under the jeep wit it in drive and someone on the break I traced the noise to the exhause pipe hitting the trans mount cross member. The hanger that hooks into the rubber block in the crossmember broke right at the weld a but stayed there allowing the pipe to tap the chassis during idle in drive and reverse but not at cruising speeds...

This might not be your problem but vibration problems with the exhaust do make sounds that are rpm dependent.
