I just got this update in the mail from Model Car Garage and they now carry 5 different wings, mesh inserts and pedal covers for import cars. Take a look:New Import Stuff

Re: Move over SAS wings

Never seen a rear spoiler that is completely flat.

SAS wings aren't completely flat.

Seems SAS doesn't need to move over at all.

Re: Move over SAS wings

Those things are hard as hell to assemble!! I gave up on trying and gave my test copy back to the hobby store It wasn't really worth the trouble to me.

mesj looks interesting, but i find the sas ones realy fiddly to put together and these ones look even more fiddly.

Sports pedals look cool too, but they gotta drop those prices, you can nearly get three sas wings for the price of one of them.

Re: Move over SAS wings

The flat airfoils are going to kill the product. They make resin parts, I don't see why they don't make a multimedia kit like SAS does. Plus, their photo etch is really thin, and I don't see that making for very convincing spoiler stands like SAS's thicker metal parts do.

The mesh, and possibly the diamond plate are very interesting, however.

Re: Move over SAS wings

Seems to be a quiet complicated wing. Think it's easier to build one yourself or just buy the SAS ones.

I have to agree on several points; price is an issue and the style of the wings themselves is an issue. The assembly of photoetch is difficult. SAS doesn't have to move aside, they do quite well and know the market much better than MCG in this case. MCG knows US cars and details; it's what they know and it's what they like and it shows in their products which are usually quite good. They're going after tuners as it's one way the market is heading (not to mention the distinct lack of new kits of vintage US iron that have been their previous bread and butter), but they don't quite understand it because they simply are not into the tuner genre.

I've found very similar brass and stainless steel mesh material made by K&S and Plano Model Products, it's used by railroad builders. It's also a good deal more product for less $$. A strip of K&S 3/64 "girder" diamond-pattern mesh material is about $7.00 and roughly twice the size of the MCG sheet; . I bought the brass, because it's much easier to cut than stainless steel. The MCG photoetch diamond plate is interesting, but the finish is all wrong. Alclad II Chrome painted over plastic/styrene treadplate will look more accurate. And we don't even have to discuss the huge price differential. Oh, and Plano Model Products has brass treadplate that looks very realistic. Do a site search, look for "brass" and "scratchbuilding supplies" and you'll find a list. I have #202 and #204 photoetched brass detail sheets. Google "Plano Model Products" and "K&S Engineering" and snoop around. Hobby shops generally carry and can order this stuff, especially railroad-oriented shops.

I must say, the MCG pedals look very nice, lots of stuff for good $$. I'll get some of those, but I'll pass on the other tuner stuff...there are better and cheaper sources for wings and mesh.

Re: Move over SAS wings

They have been out for a couple of months now, didn't understand why they made the aerofoil as an etched part too Apart from drag plates and cheap shitty wings we often see strapped to the back of a 17 year olds Vauxhall Nova his mommy just brought him, driving around town, I don't know of any wings that are flat.

Re: Move over SAS wings

Too right, the aerofoils are terrible flat.. I can't imagine forking out that much for a wing that doesn't look right... SAS wing, by far the better choice.
