Front Dif and Transfer case fluid change...is it difficult ?
2000 Blazer 4WD LT 4DR. How difficult is it to change the front differential fluid and also the transfer case fluid ? What fluids do they use ? Do you need a special tool/funnel with a hose to get the fluid in there ? Is there a trick ?
Thanks !

I was thinking of getting mine changed. Is it even necessary, I rarely use my 4wd. I heard it is recommended ever 100,000km and I'm around 140k.

The front diff is just a bolt to drain it off. There is a top bolt to fill, and a bottom bolt to drain. The rear requires the the cover to be removed to drain it. You will probably need a new gasket for the cover, but you can get by using RTV silicone. I can't remember whether the transfer case had a bolt or not. I have not changed my transfer case fluid yet. Just getting to 75k km's so I should be close for that and the transmission. The fluids should be in your owners manual. If you're not sure, the dealer will know. I think the diff's were 10W90. As far as filling them, get a bottle with a squeeze top on it to make the job easier filling. You can also buy the oil in the bottle from the dealer that already has the pointed top on it to make filling easy.
