What engines swap into a 1995 lx auto?

My friend has a 1995 lx automatic 1.9 litre and he wants to get rid of the 1.9 and swap it with a higher power engine since it only has 88 horses... so exactly what engines fit the mounts, and would be the easiest to swap? I went to corksport and found a 1.8 turbo, does that bolt right up to the mounts? or do they need to be modified? ALL help is greatly appreciated, i searched all over but found nothing that actually helped me

Easiest way to get more power out of an escort: drive downhill. Get rid of the rose colored glasses and realize it's an escort. I realize they're extremely slow, but it's NOT a sports car, esp. in LX trim, so just bear with the car until you can get something better. I have a totalled 95lx and I still drive it every day, i got it free, i don't change oil, i don't take care of it, i beat the living daylights out of the thing, it's still starting every morning (with a lil coaxing) It's an economy car, not a sportscar, just like the civic kids, fuhghetaboutit!

You can bolt in the:
2.0 SPI...110hp
1.8 bt I4 DOHC...127hp
1.8 bt (GTX, GTR) I4 DOHC Turbo...180-220hp
KL-ZE or KL-03 2.5 V6 175-200hp

Any of those motor's can be turbo'd or can handel incresed boost. The Escort can be made into a 13 second or faster screamer that can also handle with the best of them.

the best bet for the LX would be the SPI, since it would requrire less work... the BP 1.8L is a great motor esp if you turbo it or go w/ the GTX or GT-R.

so... the gtx engine and such bolts right up to the 1.8 gt mounts?
are the 1.8 mounts a little different from the 1.9?

The GTX is just a turbo'd vertion of the Escort GT motor, it's a Mazda motor. The 1.9 is a ford motor. The mounts are different, but the mount location on the chassie is the same.

Hope your buddy's got a wad a cash too.....outside of just swapping the motor you'll have to make sure you get all the engine computer components and connect them properly......Dropping the slush box??? Then you'll need to retrofit a clutch pedal and any additional bracketing, hydraulic reservoir and lines needed to support it...that's in addition to buying the tranny.....you really wanna spend that kinda cash on an Escort????

Best way to get more HP is to get a primo detail job and sell it...then buy a car that has more HP.

just swap out the Lx for the SPI and Turbo...its cheeper has the HP and is easy (well easier)... You will be happy with the escort... alot of us are happy with ours.

Best way to get more HP is to get a primo detail job and sell it...then buy a car that has more HP.

If a person has a lx and want to swap in a GTX all they have to do is buy a 91-96 Escort GT 5 speed parts car. Than swap every thing over to the lx. There really no "retrofiting", just unbolting from one car and bolting it on to the other.

The 2.0 SPI will give a nice increase for the $$$ and is a easy swap.

Jeff, this guy swapped a 130hp dohc zetec into his 95 escort lx, have you tried that?

I have 2 zetec's sitting in my garage right now. But I'm in no hurry to drop one in because I really like the SPI turbo.

can the 1995 escort fit that v6 if so that is crazy. and what kind of stuff would you have to get for it work right in the car?

The Mazda's 2.5 KL's will fit the mounts of any 91 or newer Escort.
The 3.0 Taraus V6 will fit in the older first gens Escort's 90 and older.
