Thumbs down 1993 Pontiac Sunbird Timing

I have a 93 Pontiac Sunbird that needs a new timing chain. Anyone have any idea on how much work or the easiest way to replace this myself? Any help would be great!

Chain? I assume you have the V6, yes?
On the 2.0L 4 it's just a belt and is the easiest thing in the world to change.

Re: 1993 Pontiac Sunbird Timing

You need to remove all the accessories around the front of the engine that are in the way (You may also have to support the engine and remove a motor mount), remove water pump (if it's on the front of the block like a V8), crank pulley, timing cover, align timing marks so that piston #1 is at 0 degrees (TDC-unless your service manual specifies otherwise), remove the bolt on the cam gear and slide the gears and chain off as a unit.
DO NOT disturb the engine while the chain is off!
Remove and replace any chain guides that might be in there, replace oil pump plunger if necessary, Put new chain on gears (align marks/links on chain with marks on gears and reinstall as a unit. Coat gear teeth and new chain and guides liberally with moly assembly lube.(very important!)
Replace bolt on cam gear.
Adjust any chain guides that may be there to achieve proper chain tension.
Replace timing cover gasket, front main seal and reinstall timing cover. Replace water pump gasket and reinstall water pump. Reinstall all accessories.

This is just a general procedure-your manual may specify more steps or omit parts of the procedure according to your setup.
