Ram Clutch, GM Clutch

I put in a Ram clutch into my '86 Camaro and I ended up burning it up completely in about 6 months. Next I went and purchased a high performance GM clutch. The GM clutch cost about twice as much, but sticks way better and still does about a year later. Whats up with this?... I thought Ram Clutches were the best?, or are the GM High Perfomance products really that good? Or are there any small errors that can be made installing a clutch that can cause it to burn out faster?

well there's a few things that could cause that. could be just a bad clutch to begin with or, clutch pedal free play not adjusted right, and riding the throw out bearing causing the clutch to slip, warped pressure plate, and as i mentioned in another thread ALL FINGERPRINTS must be removed with a cleaner before assymbly. doesn't matter if you can see them or not they will burn up a clutch disk. is the rear main seal leaking on the block? engine oil will usually cause a clutch to grap really hard for a couple hundred miles before burning up the clutch. how hard did you drive the car? clutches require break in too

The rear seal on the block was not leaking, but I did drive the car pretty hard before the clutch crapped out. The thing is that the GM clutch just sticks a lot better and so far has lasted a lot longer.

ya tend to get what you pay for. i've found that the GM replacement parts are usually better than what you get at a parts store, but also cost alot more too.
