Clutch Clutch Clutch
I was wondering how would i know if my shifter cables are broken or my clutch is just burned up. I dont want to buy a new clutch if I don't need one. My 96 eclipse is not going into any gear. To test it I would put the car in 1,2,3,4, or 5 gear and take my foot off the clutch and it would still run. The dealership said that I needed new cables when I DROVE it over there. On my way back home I noticed smoke and then my car fell out of gear. I know the saying "if it looks like a rat. smells like a rat it must be a rat" The smoke smelled like charcoaled clutch but at the time my only real gears were 3 and 4.

Re: Clutch Clutch Clutch
check the free play of the clutch pedal (distance of the cable to the floor), may be your cables are bad or the distance is bad and you are burning your clutch, so before drive it again check that cause may be you clutch is still good, but if you drive it a lot like that it's almost sure that you burned your clutch. good luck
