Speedometer not working

I have just purchased an 86 Legend. The speedometer does not work. Is there any way to avoid the 200$ part charge. Could I pick up one from a junkyard and attach it below the dash somewhere. There has to be some cheap fix to this. Give me some ideas.

take the speedo out and see if the cable has unpluged it self from the speedo, mine did this and all it needed was to be pluged back in
