dash light out

i have a 97 grand cherokee and the backlight in the dash between the speedo and the tach is out and its just annoyin to look at since it is so dim i was wonderin how i would get to that bulb i looked in the manual but couldnt find it please help me

Well, it's been nearly a year, but if you're still looking for a dash-light bulb I might be able to help. I had a bulb out on the A/C control knobs of my '94 Grand Cherokee, and after taking out the panel (requires removing some rather concealed screws), I found two very small bulbs - smaller than a Christmas tree light, and configured the same way (wires threaded through a plastic cap that snaps into place). The Jeep dealer looked it up (you're right - it's not in the manual), and they wanted $35 each - special order. Instead of paying $70 for the two bulbs, I went to Radio Shack and from their bulb selection I purchased a similar size (very small - look for the milli-amp rating on the old bulb). It set me back $1.50 each (wow - $3 vs. $75). If this is the type of bulb that's out on your dash, try Radio Shack. If they don't have the exact size, try a smaller bulb, or two 1/2 size bulbs and fit them into the same housing (see what the housing looks like - this might be a good bet).

clownboy610, it is rather simple to pull out and change. pull off the trim pieces carefully. unscrew about 10 screws that secure the dash/stereo bezel, undo the four mounting bolts for your gauge cluster and pull it straight back to you. then change the bulb and put it back to gether in reverse order. hope this helps
