P0442
hi all,
my first post on this site and was wondering if anyone has come across this code before. EECS small leak detected - bad gas cap? if so is there any way to test them? appreciate any help. |

Re: P0442
Usually you can test them easily with a pressure gauge, but I think this usually requires an adapter that will attach to the back of the fuel cap which probably costs as much as a new fuel cap. You might try taking it by Autozone to see if they can test it.
For a 2000 here's the details on the fuel cap: relieves system pressure above 14 kPa (56.21 inches H2O). relieves system vacuum below 3.8 kPa (15.26 inches H2O). |

thanks for the input, used mechanics wire to free up the check valve in the gas cap and i've been CEL free for about a week. paid $200 for a OBD II code reader and i figure it almost paid itself off in one repair ($80 for diagnosis and at least a new OEM gas cap plus installation). i wish autozone would make its way to canada, the free troubleshooting help is a great idea.
