Code P0442
I have a 2000 grand cherokee with the 4.0 liter engine and 112K miles. recently the check engine light came on. I got a code P0442. Mechanic said it is an evaporative leak? minor. checked the gas cap and it was tight. could it be that the cap needs to be replaced? any help is appreciated.

the gas cap is a pretty common problem.Look and see if it has any rusty looking stains on it or if you shake it little pieces of rust might come out of it.Kind of low-tech diagnosis but its a very common problem.
