Re: Govenor

get a programer like hpp3 or something. No they are different things. One limits ur top speed and the other limits how many rpms u can reach. Like my car starts to redline at 5500 and ends at 7000 but i can only go to 6200rpm.

Re: Govenor

Not sure what kind of Stang you have, but the rpm limited is built into the ECM. And, it's there for a reason - so you don't over-rev and end up with pieces on the street. I will assume you are talking 5.0 here.

Yes, it can be overriden but why do you want to? If you've modified the engine and it can take more revs, then you need to visit a good dyno tuner. They make a custom chip for you and one feature can be changing your rev limit.

With regards to chip tuners, there are a lot of them out there; only a few are really good. And, yes, re-programming is technically illegal for emissions reasons. But, chipped Stangs can pass emissions testing, too.

So, yes, you can do it. The question, again, is WHY do you want to do it? EEC-IV 5.0 Stangs were rev-limited at 6250, as I recall. My '01 Cobra, which is EEC-V, is limited at about 6800, I think. If I built my Cobra, which I eventually plan to do, with a completely forged bottom end, I still don't think I want to play with the rev-limiter unless I'm designing a race-only engine (which I won't be).

Hope this helps answer your question and gives some rationale as to the rev-limit function.

LOL
