Re: Limited slip???

it gives power to the wheel with the most traction instead of the wheel with the least traction like an open diff. it's located in the transmission. pretty sure it's in the part that the drive shafts go into.

Just to clarify... It's not a traction control system by any means, as in it won't direct power to ther wheel with more traction. It's purpose like stated above is to keep BOTH wheels spinning constant with eachother for increased handling and grip. Not sure if this applies to FWD or if it's just RWD thing, but there's types of LSDs such as 1.5way and then full 2 way. a 1.5way will disengauge itself upon it's either braking or just no throttle input. a 2way will be enguaged at ALL times. Also LSDs can be set as low as 70-80% (meaning one wheel CAN spin faster than the other around turns, and this is how most LSD's are set) or some can be set to a full 100% lock where both wheels ALWAYS spin at the same rate, even when turning. This can be bad in the sense that it can allow the wheels to hop because both are spinning the same when one may need to spin slower than the other.

ok....for instance, im my pop's truck, it was advertised as having a LSD (i think)....and when he goes around corners, he gets inside wheel hop...would this be caused by the lsd??

If it has an LSD in it (not sure of trucks that do, unless 4x4) and it's RWD and it's the inside REAR wheel that's hopping, then yes it might be that. But is he taking to corners hard, or at a normal speed? If they are hard corners, then more likely than anything else, it's just tire scrub which is the tire hopping as it slides across the pavement from loss of tire grip.

Re: Limited slip???

LSD's are awesome if you have some good rubbers. I've got the stock steelies on my car and the inside wheel spins/hops on hard turns. If I had my rims back on with some good tires, they would pull me into/out of the turn a lot quicker.

it will help in any app you put it in, but its all up to you if its worth it. it will benefit you more as your power goes up. get some prices on parts and labor and decide for yourself if you want to do it or not. on my setup, im very happy i got it.

Looks like because of the auto tranny in my '00 DX coupe, my only option for LSD is Phantom Slip...

No manual swap, I CAN make this work!
