What engines are in em?

Ok...here the deal.My dad and i were talkin tonight and we test drove a 95 or 96 eclipse like 3 months ago.I'm not sure what it was as far as base, gs, ect.But i do know it had power everything, sunroof, cruse and every other thing other then leather, turbo'd and AWD.But anyways...my dad and i somehow started talking about it again. He worked for a Mitsubishi dealer ship in Peoria ,Illinois back in 1990 to 1992.He said the Eclipse we drove was a SOHC and i said it was a DOHC.I told him that base, rs and gs' have the 420A DOHC 140 hp engine and the GST and GSX's have the 4G63.So my questions are.

1o all eclipse's have DOHC engines?
2:Base, Rs and Gs' have the 420A engines and the GST and GSX have the 4G63...is that right?
3:If base's dont have a DOHC engine...what do they have?
4:Well...there isn't a 4th.

I'll show him this thread tomorrow and show him i'm right

No, they don't. In 90-94, they had a 1.8 liter and i THINK it was sohc. I have a 2nd gen GS spyder that has a 2.4liter SOHC. Everything else, which only leaves the 420a and 4g63 are DOHC. For the 3gs, though. They all RS's and GS's have a similar engine to mine, SOHC, and a SOHC 3.0 in the GT and GTS.

1. All 95-99 are DOHC. 1g had a 1.8 SOHC.
2. Yes.
3. They do.

You drove an RS or GS before. The turbos are much quicker.

Re: What engines are in em?

All 1g N/T's are 4G63. The 2g's changed over to 420A. 2g spyder N/T is 4G64, SOHC.
