I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for modifications that I could or should to next to my '04 Grand Cherokee Freedom Edition with the 4.7L H.O. V8.
I have a Gibson cat-back exhaust system I have a K&N FIPK Intake Kit I put a nice Pioneer Premier CD/MP3 Player I have the new Clifford Matrix RSX 3.5 Custom Alarm System I have upgraded all my lightbulbs to high quality Xenon bulbs (low beams, high beams, and fog lights) I got a Jeep Bug Deflector I nice high quality Dash Mat I transferred my stereo system from my last car into this one My next considerations are: Optima Red Top Battery Billet Grill Jet Performance Chip Those carbon fiber looking "Euro" tail lights Please give me any feedback or suggestions about what you think I should do next. Thanks |

Re: Mod suggestions for my '04 Grand Cherokee 4.7L H.O. Freedom Edition
If you plan to keep it, get it rust proofed real quick. My Liberty is rusting from the inside out pretty bad. I work with a few body shops and they always have a DCX vehicle in for rust repair. I have to lay new stripes on a '03 Ram with rusted out doors.
Also, look into some custom graphics either painted or vinyle. I install vinyle ones all the time for people wanting to stand out a little. There are all kinds of items from mild to wild. goto www.aawi.com I would look into a dvd system or something to up the beef on the stereo. I've done a lot of bazooka tubes that look like NOS bottles. www.bazooka.com |

Yeah I was thinking the billet grill would probably come next, cause it will make my front look nice, then maybe optima battery since they aren't too expensive, but I'll wait till my standard battery has worn down some.
Thanks for the suggestion |

Surf2,The Jeep dealership that I got my car from carries the K&N Intake System in their mod/parts dept., and the Gibson catback exhaust system I got from a motorsports shop said Gibson guarantees that their exhaust will not mess with your warranty... I have the 7 yr, 70,000 warranty, and Im not sure which one you have but the motorsports shop and the dealership both gave me the ok to get that stuff because it only increases airflow and efficiency in the engine giving you more power etc... They said things like big lifts, and superchargers, possibly even performance chips would be more in line with mods that would possibly void your warranty. That's what I know, but besides intake and exhaust I'm not planning on mod'ing the engine for awhile, in the future maybe some headers, a larger intake manifold, and a supercharger, but nothing for now, Im happy with the speed and quickness of my 4.7 H.O. with just the exhaust and intake and I would recommend you look into getting the same. I can pull up the prices and info on my mod's if your interested. |

Re: Mod suggestions for my '04 Grand Cherokee 4.7L H.O. Freedom Edition
I'm guessing you're not looking for big budget items, and that you don't have special requirements?
One of the first things I found that I needed (going from a truck to an SUV) was a heavy duty rubber mat in the cargo area that has high raised edges to contain any mud or liquid that gets free (essential if you offroad, fish, picnic or just plain carry groceries). You can get a matching set of mats (all with raised edges to contain dirt/mud) at the same time. If you don't need the rubber, there are mat systems that come with blocks with special "velcro" hooks on the bottom and you move the blocks around to keep stuff from falling over...stuff such as potted plants, spare gas cans, buckets of anything, or just to keep stuff from sliding around. The non-rubber mats usually cost a pretty penny. If you do any traveling at all, I'd recommend a large, heavy duty rack/cargo cage on top. Get the kind that will fit your stock roof-rack rails, and get the largest you can put on top. It's alot less air efficient than the stock roof racks but it's alot easier to just throw stuff into the safari-style racks and you don't have to worry about stuff sliding out...like the cooler for your kid's team's drinks if it's your turn to supply snacks or a spare tire if your tire doesn't fit inside or if you need the inside space...or snowboards. Another, much cheaper alternative is to get a hitch rack, that fits into your trailer hitch. You can remove it when you don't need it and if you hunt around you probably can find one for around $50.00 on sale (Harbor Freight in Southern CA). I'm thinking of going with a hitch-mounted bike rack setup 'cause I can get one for about $150.00 (vs about $400.00 total for a nice roof rack setup) and I'm short ![]() If you want something to increase your entertainment factor and still can be useful on long trips get a CB radio with a PA system built in. Pay someone to install it for you (you can mount the antenna on your safari roof rack). You can roll down your windows and talk to people easily...and if you aren't easily embarassed hand your PA mic to your kids and let them go to town. The PA also allows you to monitor calls on your CB while you're messing around outside. Have fun ![]() Ray |

The roof rack and heavy duty floor mats came with the Freedom Edition package I got on my '04 Grand Cherokee, but how about that PA system, how much are they and where could I get one, and that let's you talk to people outside your car right, with a speaker mounted under your hood, and a little walkie talkie looking receiver that you press a button to talk through like truck drivers have right? If you have any info let me know, that sounds kinda interesting on the PA system, and if you have any advice for engine modifications that are available for the new Grand Cherokee's w/ 4.7L H.O. V8 Thanks |

I could be wrong, but if I understand the new EPA regs, you really can't do too much to your engine except exhaust/intake mods...unless you're looking to intall a snorkle ![]() --As far as the CB with PA, I used to have one with my first Tacoma and it pays to have someone else install it 'cause of the tight wiring and space in the GC. You also need to make sure it and it's antenna leads are not located close enough to interfere with your airbag blackbox (in my Tacoma it was on the "hump" under the radio, but still far enough away). You have to hunt around for it...I didn't pull mine when I got rid of my blue Tacoma and I regret it. Haunt the electronics stores...I got mine from an Al and Ed's but I haven't seen one in awhile. Mount a big outside speaker, as big as will fit under your hood. Most people will look at you funny when you ask them, but be persistent. You may have to buy a more expensive model, like an SSB version to get the PA but it was pretty handy when we were guiding someone or winching them, or everytime I saw a dog in a car or on a sidewalk ![]() ---What about the valve caps that light up when you move? ---or those neon (inside and outside) light kits? ---I've always found an exterior, rear mounted light on either the roof rack or the tow hitch frame to be useful...sometimes useful when backing up, but mostly just when you're messing around and it gets dark. ---If you do anything with inflateable items (not that...I mean float tubes, fixing tires, air mattresses, water toys, air tools, basket balls) mounting an air compressor under the hood and storing a hose long enough to reach the back tires helps. Look for them at offroad stores. They're not cheap but they're always there when you need one and they don't overheat like the cheaper versions that you store in the back. You can make one from an air conditioning compressor that you get from a junkyard, if you're handy with tools. ---Have fun. Ray |

Put a sky jacker 8" lift with 44" tires. Good ole cherry bombs for exhaust is a great way to go too.
