looking for new shock recommendations for 96 Blazer

I'm really getting annoyed with my blazers ride and handling it bounces way too much going over pot holes and it dips down noticeably when braking so I'm looking for some new shocks and possibly add-a-leaf kit for the back. It currently has no lift on it and I don't really want much more than maybe an inch of lift. I do a moderate ammount of off-roading, mostly trails, no rock-crawling, but my main priority is how it rides on the freeway and streets, but something that also handles decently off-road, any recommendations?

I bought four Ranchos from Sears for my 94 Jimmy three years ago. My opinion - the best multi-purpose shock absorber on the market....and they won't cost you a ton of money.

The rancho shocks are great shocks. RS1000's, which is all you need unless you are towing or offroading, should be around $40-$50 each. If you might do some offroading, go for the RS5000s. Another good choice would be from Monroe, (the same company makes both brands or at least they did). The Magnum plus model or it's current replacement is about $25-$40. They are the truck model of the sensatrac models that have been out for a few years. I put a set on my 91 blazer and love the ride better then the newer ones.

Hey I just replaced the shocks on my 97. I put monroe reflex on mine and I think they are money well spent. One thing I would say is that now my blazer rides a little bit more like a truck but all in all they are great. I live on a farm here in kansas so I do quite a bit of offroading and I love my new shocks just a suggestion.

Just before it self destructed (arg) I had put Monroe Reflex shocks on my 95 Blazer. They worked really well both on street and moderate off road (ranch roads, big ruts, etc).

I have the Edelbrock IAS shocks in my blazer and they are probably the stiffest shock on the market for the average consumer. Completely changed the way the truck handles and reacts to bumps, potholes, rocks and snow. They have a very harsh ride on your average city street covered with potholes. The harder you push them it seems the better they work and react. The highway ride is excellent, no body lean when turning at highspeeds and the wind does not throw you all over. When I hit bumps on wither the street, dirt road, or highway, the truck stays very flat and in control, except it is so harsh on you and the truck and makes everything rattle! At 80 mph when I hit a big bump on the highway the truck stays flat and maybe gives you one bounce and then it is as straight as can be again, when I had the factories in it would bounce up to five times before it settled down. You feel very in control with these shocks minus the horrible city ride and the price tag of about $70 a piece not installed. But good luck and let us know what you go with and I hope I helped!

My previous shocks were Monore Reflex which i though were a good shock but i still had a lot of front end sway on the interstate. I put Rancho 9000 serious shocks all around and i absolutely love them. If you put all four shocks on "9" the highest setting, the Blazer practically feels like a sports car and has hardly any body roll. I usually keep my front shocks on 3 or 4 and it helps out the front sway on the highway a lot!!!

i have a complete set of Rancho RS 5,000's. the rides a little stiffer but not bad. deffently can feel a diff over the stock ride. haven't been 4-wheeling yet but i will. you cna go around a turn now and no body lean. sometimes when you go around one you can feel it lean and then fix it's self. they are oil filled so there very easy to install except the red rubber boot is hard to put on the shock.

For the past 8 years I have used RS 5000s' on all my trucks/blazers. The street ride is a little stiffer, but I pull a boat, a trailer, and drive off road frequently. and the ride is very firm, no xtra bounces, and gives a good feeling of control, body roll is negligble. I would not use them on a pure street ride.
