Question 98 Silverado AC trouble

I was hit head on by a drunk driver and had to have some repairs to the Silverado. Before the accident the AC was fine. The dealership replaced the condenser and the radiator. I got the truck back and the AC was cold for only 1 week. After battling with the insurance company and dealership they say that whatever the problem is, its not accident related. Does anyone know what the problem could be. Again there is a new radiator and condenser.

thanks- Brad

Could be that the repair shop got something in the line when they replaced the condenser, and one week after you got it back, the debris became lodged somewhere, and now the refridgerent isn't flowing right.

Re: 98 Silverado AC trouble

There are many possibilities for a system that blows
"warm" air!

My first suspect following a large repair would be a leak in the system.

My second would be forein debrie in the plumbing that eventually plugs the Orfice tube.

My third suspect would be a problem with the electrical, but very unlikely.

With the A/C selected to MAX cold and the fan selected to high blow, while you maintain app 1200 RPM, does your compressor engage when you turn the A/C on, and if so does it continue to pump or does it cycle on & off, if it cycles you probably have a low charge do to a leak.
If the compressor pumps continuously and does not cycle on & off then my guess would be a plugged screen at an Orfice tube.

There are quit a few possibilities these are just a few, but I consider high.

The bottom line is you really need a gauge set, and a halon leak detector to properly trouble shoot the system.
