01 Silverado Tranfer Problems

I have an '01 silverado and when you push the button for 4 wheel hi or low, it indicates inside the vehicle it is in, but when you try to pull up sometime the front is not locked in, but the back is. You can hear it trying to engage inside the transfer case, but the front does not pull. Also, when you turn the heat on all you smell is antifreeze.

Help Please!!!!!!!!!!
