Annoying problem- cooling fans, changed sensor!

Sup guys. I'm a Ford tech, but this damn Grand-Am is annoying me worse than any Explorer or Focus, lol.

It's a '99 with a 3.4L, 148k on the clock.

Water pump and thermostat have been replaced, cooling fans will only turn on when I hit the A/C. Never any other time. Car gets pretty hot in stop and go traffic, if I don't stop, she's fine.

Replaced the sensor on the thermostat housing (engine block side), guy behind the counter said it would be the one I needed, the two wire one. Nay. No change. Alldata said that the fans are controlled by the ECM through a Cooling fan module, but i'm clueless as to where that could be or how to test it.

Anyone?

I have a 2003 3.4 V6 G/A. Both my fans never turn on unless the A/C is on either. Then, once the A/C is off, they remain on for a minute or so then turn off. My car never over heats. The service dept. says that once the engine hits 210 degrees, the fans kick on, then the engine cools to the normal 200 degrees, then turn back off. They says its normal. Recently, my thermal shields have been pinging like crazy, contracting and expanding. The tech says thats fine also, but I haven't heard it ping like that before. Pinging only occurs when the engine is off and cooling down.

i highly doubt that it's normal for a car to heat up past optimal temp, at times, it got close to 3/4 of the way on the gauge.
