Having problem with my steering.

I've actually had this problem as long as I've owned the car. I have a '97 v-6 firebirs I bought used. It has the 17" ws-6 wheels on it. My problem is that when I drive on roads that aren't perfectly flat my steering pulls pretty hard one way or the other. I have had an alignment and I have had new tires put on. Anyone have any clue what might be going wrong? I heard that it may be because my tires are so wide, is there any truth behind this? what's the best way to go about getting the problem fixed?

Re: Having problem with my steering.

elaborate on this a little more. when you say perfectly flat do you mean not inclined or full of pot-holes or what. also, does it pull hard constantly during the course of the drive or just a certain points along the path of the car...

it rides perfectly on roads that don't have crests/potholes. it pulls hard when i encounter a crest /level change in the road. I'm talking about level changes like indentations like tire treads in the road.

Re: Having problem with my steering.

I had the same thing happen on my Camaro and now it is happening on my TransAm that I just bought. The roads here where I live are terrible and the construction doesn't help.

TO describe in more detail is anytime you have a level change in the road, the steering will tend to go in that direction or the opposite direction. Either way, it changes and you have to fight it to bring it back straight. I've had the alignment too and I have new tires. My car only has 38K miles on it, so I can't believe something is already worn out in the steering.

If anyone has fixed this problem, let us know.

Thanks,
Jeff

-------------------------------------Sounds like a toe in problem. Have your alignment shop compensate for the over sized tires.or it could be worn struts also. good luck............

I had the exact same thing happen when I put 16" rims on my 1968 Firebird. It actually was so scary that my wife resused to drive the car. I took it to two alignment shops and they said every thing was perfect . I finally got a new set of tires and the whhole steering problem was solved.
