My car is an 87 camaro with a caurberated, 305, auto transmission. The probelem is that when im going down the road or highway or whatever, once i get to about 40 mph my car seems like it looses its power on the way up to 40 mph and starts making a ticking noise. the only way to get over 40 mph is to stomp it then it seems like it kicks in and goes normal. So in smaller words. i have to stomp it when it gets to 40 to be able to go any faster. And i have no idea at all what it could be. Your input would be greatly appreciated.....so if you could also tell me what it is to be fixed and how much it would be.
Thanx, 87 camaro |

Re: Question about extremely weird problem in my 87 camaro
someone said somewhere that the third gen auto trannies had problems with the torque converter lockup or the 4th gear servos, something like that. does this happen when it shifts from third to forth or when the trans is in overdrive or what?

Re: Question about extremely weird problem in my 87 camaro
Yeah, sounds like a tranny problem. Sounds like the power distrubution from the engine to the tranny isn't quite right. Probably the converter, maybe not locking, but just not working right.
