2000 gtp performance shift?

Hi,
i have a 2000 gtp with performance shift option. When I turn it on, the digital computer says "performance shift", but I can't feel any difference at all in the overall performance of the car? Is it not plugged in or not working? Can I troubleshoot it?

Re: 2000 gtp performance shift?

Did they discontinue the performance shift in the 01' and 02' models of the GTP? I heard that they did. Does the GTP take a different transmission because of the per. shift? Thanks again! I am definately a newbie!

Re: 2000 gtp performance shift?

Basically if you have an OEM PCM the most noticeably change(with Perf Shift Engaged) would be when accelerating from a full stop. The shifting would last longer(a.k.a. shifting will happen at a higher rpm than normally should).
SO giving your car a little more torque, that is pretty much what you are supposed to see. If you install an aftermarket PCM then usually with the Perf Shift engaged you can make the tranny shift from 4 to 2 and 3 to 1 when extra torque is required, also the rpm redline is risen from 5800 to 6000 when upshifting.
Bottom line if you have an OEM PCM the difference is not that great.

To my humble understanding the Perf Shift is available on all GTPs

Re: 2000 gtp performance shift?

Thanks for the quick reply. Is it better to leave the perf. shift on at all times? A previous post mentioned something about leaving it on to minimize clutch slipping in the tranny, thus keeping it from wearing out sooner. I just bought the car and I like it a lot!

Re: 2000 gtp performance shift?

What will cause the clutch to wear is the driving conditions. SO if you are on the city put the tranny on 3 just use D on highways. make sure that you do not push it hard on short drives to avoid to much shifting. That is what will make it wear(using perf shift all the time will prevent the tranny shifting a lot on short drives so you can say yes, perf shift will help you preserve it as long as it could last)

Re: 2000 gtp performance shift?

What is the best pcm that is safe for the car and is worth the money? What do most people use in their grand prix gtp's?

Re: 2000 gtp performance shift?

DHP is the best.

Also Perf. shift was discontinued in 2001

If you get a DHP pcm then all u have to do is wire up a switch to pin 21 on the pcm
