2001 Silverado didn't de-accelerate

This just happened tonite...... (2001 5.3, Z-71) was traveling about 45mph approaching a red light. Let off the gas pedal to coast and truck stayed at same speed. No slow down at all, almost like in cruise control. In fact, it seemed to accelerate about 1 mph. Thought maybe something was going on with my cruise control, even though it wasn't on, so I tapped the brakes (real quick and lightly like ya do to disengage cruise) and the engine revved up and down about 100 rpms real quick. Still rolling along at about 45 mph. Tapped brakes again because I didn't beleive what just happened and same thing..... quick rev up and down about 100 rpms. Really weird!

By now I'm approaching the red light so I apply the brakes and can tell the truck wants to accelerate still. So as I come to a stop I put it into neutral and it begins to rev up to 4500-5000 rpms! I quickly hit the gas and let off, like I'm kicking down the rpms and it continues to rev. The second kick down attempt it finally dropped down to idle around 900 rpms........... then seemed like it wanted to stall.

Gave it a little gas to keep it running, the light changed and I proceeded home a few more blocks and it seemed fine. Going to check it out in the morning.

Anybody experience anything like this........ maybe some clues as to what to check out??

Man, that is scary! Check to make sure nothing is interfering with the throttle cable and that it has not rough spots or burs. Beyond that, it could be a number of things. I would have someone check codes soon. You never know when it might happen again. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Had the same thing happen on my 2001 Silverado. Turned out I had pushed the rubber floor mat up against the bottom of the accelerator pedal and it was held in place . Moved floor mat and all was well.

Re: 2001 Silverado didn't de-accelerate

Thanks for the input guys!! It's not the floor mat and I've checked around the throttle body and can't find nothing out of the ordinary. Haven't checked for any codes yet.

Here's the kicker....... since that evening I posted my inquiry, the problem hasn't happened again and get this....... I seem to have a lot more power!! Really seems to take off now....... really noticable in the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle pedal. Also, when cruising at 70 mph the tach used to read about 1900-2000 rpms. Now I'm running about 1600-1700 rpms. Gonna check my mpg next fill up (been averaging about 16 mpg, city and highway combined).

Bought the truck brand new and now has 41,000 miles on it. Only mods I've done so far to the engine have been a K&N charger kit @ about 8,000 miles, (replaced cone filter with a Free Flow cone filter @ 38,000 miles) and a Borla cat back dual exhaust system @ 27,500 miles. (No mods to the tranny yet.)

Alot of these trucks seem to have a mind of their own..... go figure!!
