new noise

I have read all of the forum pages and I haven't found anyone with this particular problem. Recently, on certain roads (bumpy) I hear a clunking noise that sounds like it is coming from the passenger side. It almost sounds as if a shock is loose. I had the front shocks replaced...didn't help. My mechanic replaced the idler arm...same noise. The strange thing is it doesn't do it all the time...just on certain bumps. My blazer only has 44,000 miles on it. Is my front suspension already shot? What should I replace next?

Yes. Do you have any idea what it might be?

Re: new noise

chvyblazin97,I like your fix! Have your ball joints been checked, VERY COMMON, have someone look close. If bad replace with MOOG.

Re: new noise

I think I have the same problem. It only happens on certain bumps and sounds like it is an inside nosie or really close like maybe the side mirror. I honestly thought of check the speaker in the dash out and some other things but just haven't had the free time.

If anyone figures this out please post back.

I have the same problem with my 2001 Blazer. I think it's coming from the glove box. When the noise appears and I press on the glove, I hear nothing. Any ideas how to fix it?

Re: new noise

I have the same noise also on my 98. Sorta sounds like plastic rattling around in the dash. I checked shocks, pitman arm, replaced ball joints nothing seemed to fix it. I had my wife sit in the driver seat and started shaking things under the hood and I found that the brain box on the passenger side make a noise that sound about the same. I am getting ready to unmount it and try and get a more secure mount under it. If it works I will let you know.

More than likely it's either the control arm bushins (check for rot) or the hub bearing... To check if it's the hub bearing, simply jack up that side of the car... Rock the tire from top to bottom (not side to side) if there is any play at all, you found your culprit.... If you do replace your hub bearing, make sure it's torqued down to 180 ft pounds... This is CRITICAL... If you over or under torque it, you can say bye bye to your new bearings withing 2-3000 miles..

Also check your exaust system is stable and tight...

With a friend, have him also check underneath while you are rocking the tire... Look at the ball joints, if they move at all those will be the culprit...

Re: new noise

One other thing that could cause the noise, sway bar links and bushings.

yeah I tried to mount the brain better and still here the noise. It sounds like plastic is rattling around. I would think that some bushing could make that noise???? I think I just replace all the bushing in it and see if that will help they do look pretty worn out......

Thanks
