tacoma manual trans popping out of 5th gear

tacoma manual trans popping out of 5th gear on the hwy, feels strange going into 1st gear also...like it's resisting. I've heard the following explanations: clutch, throw bearing...what do you think?

1997 tacoma 72k, use it to pull 1500lb boat sometimes
