carbon in EGR causing problems

Does anyone know the cure for carbon deposits getting caught in the EGR preventing the valve from closing? Causes stalling and lose of ps/pb while driving! When carbon is removed it fixes the situation for only a short time...problem returns again. Any suggestions? 94 GMC Jimmy 135k miles.

Is this a 4.3 V6 Wseries...? W is in the VIN number...

And, does it run rich?

Poor gas milage?

Start hard?

I pretty much had the same problem. I ended up having to get a new intake manifold.

Thanks for your response, I did read your thread. Has anyone tried the gasket with the screen...and does it work? I guess it really doesn't matter...I think I am trading the Jimmy in for a Saturn. But I am curious if the screened gasket does the trick.

From what I've read on this board, the screen works pretty good. I wish I knew about it before I spent all that money though.

Rather than spending more money on S/H than the gasket I made my own with a regular gasket and some copper screen from an exhuast repair kit and a little rtv and presto. I think it cost me a total of 6-7 dollars ( the exhuast repair kit was around 5 bucks ) I'm sure you could probably find some screen not in a kit a little cheaper.

RTV gasket sealant. You know the blue or clear silicone. Used it to hold the screen in place.
