2002 Grand Caravan experts please help!

Hi All!

After reading many Minivan reviews I, like most of you, made the plunge and purchased a used 2002 Graqn Caravan Sport that was fully loaded. I will not get it for another 3 weeks so I have some important questions regarding options and pre-delivery inspection.

1) What mechanical components are a must check or change before I take delivery? The van has 83K kilometers (or 52K for our American friends)

2) I have the 28F (in Canada) package and do not know what it includes other than what is visible. Is there any one who knows where I can access a detailed option list?

3) I have been trying to figure out what stereo options I have since I test drove the vehicle. The stereo has 3 tone controls (Bass, Mid, and Treble) 8 speakers (that i could find). Is this the cd changer model?

4) I have a leather wrapped steering wheel and fog lights. Does this mean I have the touring or pre-tow package?

5) The van was advertised as fully loaded. What does that include? There is no DVD system or GPS or hitch.

6) I am planning to install one visor and 4 head rest monitors but want to use the original mopar cd/dvd changer. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 2002 Grand Caravan experts please help!

Very important...Change the tranny fluid and filter. Be sure to use a genuine Mopar filter and Mopar-approved ATF+4 fluid. It is very cheap insurance. When I changed mine at 2 years old, the filter was almost completely clogged.

Good luck! Carl

Re: 2002 Grand Caravan experts please help!

1) Change the traany fluid and filter as well as the oil. Go over the entire brake system and check the spark plugs and coil pack. You might want to get the throttle body cleaned as well.

2)Information on the 28F package can be obtained from the DaimlerChrysler website.

3)There are 8 different radios that fit this van. Below the radio is the temp controls and below that is either the cd changer if equipped or an empty slot for change and whatever. The radio will have a 3-letter model type on the face near the bottom. It will be something along the lines of RBK, RAB and so on. The info on the radio is also available from their website.

4) The van probably has just a higher-line interior package than the base model. Check the rear axle to see if you have a sway-bar bolted on the back-side of it. If it's there you have a pre-towing package.

5) The 28F package info sheet will detail what the van has. Any other options would be listed on the bill of sale which any dealer can get a copy of for you.

6)Stick with the roof mounted DVD screen. Running all the wiring for the additional monitors requires almost gutting the van as the channel to run the wires is under the carpet. It should only take about 3-4 hours for the dealer or respectable car audio store to install the unit for you. Try to stay with factory original components as they will work perfectly with the van. Alot of aftermarkets units are incompatable with the audio system and do not sound very good.

Does anyone fosee any additional components required to go digital temperature control if I already have the 3 zone manual?

Thank you for all the replies!
