Need Help With Check Engine!
Hey I wanted to see if you guys could help me out..I have a 98 Eclipse RS and the check engine light is on..but I heard there was a way without bringing it to the shop to turn it off...Like there was a fuse you could pull out and plug back in and it'll be gone...Does anyone know which one it is? Or if there is another way to get the check engine light turned off other then going to the shop? Thanks a lot for your help!

Re: Need Help With Check Engine!
Pull the negative cable off the battery for about 5 minutes. Then put it back on. But if the problem is still there it will come back on.

Re: Need Help With Check Engine!
If the O2 sensor is the problem, will unhooking the battery solve the check engine light on a talon tsi awd?

Re: Need Help With Check Engine!
If your o2 sensor is shot, resetting the ECU won't fix it again.. it will just take a new survey of your systems, and find the o2 sensor bad again.

Re: Need Help With Check Engine!
Ah okay, that figures. But I guess there isn't anything damaging about a bad o2 sensor, besides having a nagging Check Engine light on in the instrument cluster. Or if you drive without the o2 sensor working, can it be damaging to your engine?

Re: Need Help With Check Engine!
Depends which o2 sensor it is. The first one (closest to the engine, in o2 sensor housing) regulates fuel for a warmed up car... so that makes it pretty important. I think if it goes bad, your car will revert to a pre-set fuel table by MAS signal, and you'll get bad gas milage. It's not good to run the car off stoich in the long run.
If it's the cat o2 sensor, it won't affect anything. |
