nedd help with check engine light!
Hi all,i have been around this forum for a while now and this is my second post but anyway...i was driving my ford focus 2001 zts and all of a sudden the check engine light came up.
The car is running fine and all but im still concerned with what the problem may be. I just happen to read a previous thread about check engine light problem and there was a tip on how to look up the DTS codes generated. So i did that but it didnt have any codes and the word "NONE" was flashing. Does that mean that nothing is wrong and if thats the case hoew do i get rid of the check engine light beside taking it to my local dealer. Thanks to any replyes in advance. Cheers! |

Re: nedd help with check engine light!
Whoever pulled the codes for you should be able to clear the codes.

Re: Re: nedd help with check engine light!
hey make sure all the electronic sensors are connected firmly ie o2 sensor. and be sure your gas cap is on and other minor things like that. if it's just a sensor loose the check engine will turn off shortly after you reconnect. Hope this helps good luck

Thanks for replying fellas and i have one more question...where is this O2 sensor located at.Im not 100% familiar with my focus cause i only baught it recently and i also never had to go under the hood to mess with it.
But ill definetely check everything i can to make sure nothing is loose. I hate taking my car to the dealer cause i hate the place i bought my car from. They are not very helpfull when it comes to servicing my car and i alway wind up leaving my car for couple of days there and thts the one thing i dont wana do. But ill definetely check everything before i go there first. Thanks guys for your help on this. Cheers! |

Re: nedd help with check engine light!
O2 sensors are before and after the catalytic convertor, which, in the Focus, is right under the exhaust manifold.

ok im back again..i wind up disconecting the battery and connecting it back up and the check engine light is gone.I dont know if what i did was the smart thing to do but it seems to take of the problem for the moment cause i hate driving with the check engine light on its very distracting.
If it reapears again then ill take it to the dealership. Thanks and cheers! |

Re: nedd help with check engine light!
My engine light came on yesterday. The car runs ok. After some reading on this site I thought it might be an emission sensor because my air filter is dirty. Then I remembered the quicklube guy couldn't get the bolt off to replace the air filter (the one that gets corroded by the battery fumes on the positive side) so I was going to do it myself and forgot. Sure enough I changed it and no more CEL. Haha. I was freaking out it was going to be something serious and expensive.
By the way, Cdn Tire only has $50 code scanners for pre '95 cars. The OBD-2 scanner is $250. Where are you guys finding these cheap ones for the Focus? |

So i called the service department at my local dealer and had a conversation about what the problem may be.He said that the reason the cel is on is posibly due the hot weather. Also he said that i should remove the gas cap and put it back on every now and then.He advised me to wait a couple of days and see if the light goes away by it self.
I asked him to tell me how much it costs to check for any error codes and he said like $100.Thats like higway robery to me since i can go to canadian tire here and buy a odb2 code reader for $140 right now. Also would like to know if i went ahead and tried to clen the maf sensor and a few other things would that void the waranty on my car. I realy am out of options here cause i dont want to bring the car to them and they check the car for any codes and find nothing then im out of $100 bucks.Or maybe ill take it to Maydas, they ofered to check it for $40. |

Re: nedd help with check engine light!
Cleaning your MAF sensor shouldn't void your warranty at all, but if you f*** it up, as it's a delicate piece, it will set you back at least $100 for a new one.

Just a quick update on my situation...Like i said the light disapeared and than at the end of the day it came back on.So i waited again to see if itl go away and after of couple of days driving it did and now its been like 2 days and still no check engine light.
Weird! |
