OK, this might sound a little confusing, so just bear with me. I want to buy a 1994-1996 Mustang, preferably with high miles or slight work needed, to keep the price down. Then, I'd like to pull the engine, and drop a 1996-1998 Cobra engine into it. I've heard that it is VERY expensive to convert a V6 to V8, so would I be better off getting a GT, and swapping the engine? Does my idea sound like it could work? If so, where can I find a good engine? Thanks!! Jay

Re: which should I choose?
why not get the 94/95 5.0 and build that engine up? your gonna get the cobra engine and rebuild it, right? if i were in you position, i would rebuild the 5.0, maybe even stroke it to a 331 and blow it.i guessing it will cost about the same, and be just as/more powerful. just my opinion.
but if you do go cobra, then you probably should get 96/97 (4.6 motor). i guessing the wiring harnest is the same (im not even 70% sure) but you do have to get a new harness for sure if you get the 94/95 (has 302). good luck on what ever you do.

There is no completely cheap way to do this but here is the cheapest way. Get a 96-up GT with a blown(as in no good) motor. Now buy a 96-01 Cobra motor/tranny with complete wiring harness and computer($6,000). And start swapping! some small things here and there left to get but not bad.

94/95 mustang GT and get a blown 331.
Thats my vote. I would stay away from the V6 as cheap as you can get the 94 or 95 GT with high miles they are already set up and ready for the new V8.
