what if...
What if Earth is to Mars what Mars is to Earth. Think about it. Mars is similar to Earth in some ways. Some. Do you think maybe life did exist on Mars at one point? What if Noah's Ark was in fact a shuttle that landed on the runways in Egypt? Maybe the big flood was in fact on Mars? Just a thought. Please dont flame me.

That's a Joan Osborne song...
Life on Mars in the past? Possible I guess, although apparently nothing smart/stupid enough to permanently alter the geography in any way we can see. Wooden animal laden spaceshuttle? There are a probably a hundred different scientific reasons why most people would think this impossible, but others would tell you a wave of God's hand makes all of our scientific reasonings go out the window. Perhaps Noah was given divine knowledge of heat deflector shields and pressurized vessel cabins as well as zoological expertise. I've never heard anything about the Ark coming from another planet before... Is that actually a theory people hold? After seeing that flat earth society crap from a while back, I think people will believe just about anything if they really want to. |

1st of all mars has too litle mass to maintain a atmosphere dense enough to make breathing posibile (even if the composition would be right) and there is no way to solve this(unless you dicover a way to increase a planetary mass - not the easiest thing to do )Second what runaways in Egypt? Third the flood is most likely (historically) atributed to a breach that formed the Boshphorus straights and the Mediteranean sea came in and formed the full size Black Sea we know today (Ballard is actually working on this theory right now) And btw a much closer planet to Earth's properties is Venus. Venus is an example of what would actually happen if th Earth would become extremelly polluted. Mars is just annother Paris Hilton of astronomy, there are other things much more interesting than mars in the solar system. Europa for once.

Re: what if...
There COULD be liquid water under the ice of europa, and therefore it's possible that there could be life in said water. Now, what if that life wan't just limited to single celled organisms? what if they hard more advanced lifeforms there, similar to those weird-ass jelly fish and other bizarre deep sea creatures we find here.

Ok. My theory was a little farfetched. I think it was more a product of boredom. It would make for an interesting movie though. Dontcha think?

well if they get attacked by klingons on the way with the deathstar and they have some sort of space fight then it might be interesting

The trouble with the Venus/polution annalogy is that Venus's atmosphere is about 90 times ours. And much like you said its tough to add planetary mass, it holds true for the atomosphere too. Add to that the composition differences - 3.5% Nitrogen vs 78% make the likelyhood of Earth ever being that way between slim and none.
Mars could have had a denser atmosphere long ago. The gravity isn't enough to hold onto it indefinately, but it is strong enough to have held onto one for billions of years as it slowly leaked away. Interesting times.

its true the atmophere on venus is 96 bars, and 97%Co2 3%N2, but when i was making the comparison with an extemelly poluted earth i was not thinking about its chemical composition. what i was refering to was its surface temperature of ~462 C generated by an extreme grenhouse effect. I should have been more specific im my post.
