It sounds like you have actually allready found one and just need some advice about it? If the clutch slips it might just need to be blead, but usually when it needs to be blead it will be hard to shift.
They are in most respects as easy or easier to work on than most other cars, but if the clutch is actually going south it is a very labor intensive replacement. Besides the cost of a new clutch a garage may charge around 3 to 400 dollars to install it.
My 10 year old son Jordan allready owns his first Fiero, though since he can't drive yet obviously I am his designated driver for now
He made all the decisions on how he wanted it to look. I am sure once you see how it looks you will know immediatly where his inspiration came from
Here are a few pics of his very customized '85 Fiero:

Thumbs up Re: 14 and wants a fiero

Have you ever helped or worked on cars yourself before Jono? Coz getting used to working on the mid engine is, well, a stretch at first, but I always say that if you love a car enough, you'll do whatever it takes to obtain and maintain =) . Im an 18 yr old student, and Ive owned and worked on 10 some odd vehicles...the Fiero is reliable if you buy the right one. I bought mine about a month ago after researching extensively on the net. Also, the guy who sold me mine was the original owner, and he had a very recent carfax report. (for 15 + older cars, or any used cars for that matter, it's a good thing to ask for this. Offer the guy the price of the carfax if he's apprehensive!) Look around, and talk to people. Sometimes the best way to find a car that someone wants to sell is by word of mouth. Take a mechanic or someone in your family with you who knows what they're doing... As far as the fiero you have your eyes set on, id veer away from it because of the clutch problems, because I have yet to learn how to install a clutch and Ive heard they are extensive jobs on the Fiero. Call shops in your area and see what they charge. Other than the clutch does it drive fairly well?

Re: 14 and wants a fiero

yeah...i got a fiero, it has the v-6 and it BLOWS to work on...i hate the fiberglass/plastic body panles, and hate the auto transmission....i love the mid-engine, and love the fun factor of driving it(and 18$to fill up isnt bad either)..but a fiero is actually cool...if you get one with the gt front fashia, or just a gt ..and it HAS to have the 2.8 v-6...the 4 needs work to get any power out of it

What? Are we even talking about the same car? Granted the auto trannie isn't as much fun nor does it do as good power wise as 4 speed or even better a 5 speed, but everything else about a Fiero is great. One of the best parts about a Fiero is the plastic body panels. It makes it so easy to repair, replace or mod the car as the possibilities are endless. The Fiero is the perfect car to customize, be it mild, wild or with a totally different body all together like a Kit car.
Look at our green Fiero above for just one example of what you can easily do with a Fiero. That was done on a semi small budget over really a short amount of time, so it doesn't take big bucks to do some different interesting and unique things on one. They are also very easy to work on for a car. Easier than just about any car as most things are easily reachable with minimul effort, that is considering of course we are still talking about an automobile. I should know as I have owned Fieros for years and we currently own 18 running Fieros
As for the 4 cyl needing work to get any power, granted it might have to work a bit harder compared to the not much better and heavier stock V6 but it sounds like you haven't really driven a good example of a Fiero 4 banger before? If your automatic is the only experience you have then that might make sense to why you think that.
It is nice to see that even with the feelings you currently have in some areas about the Fiero that you still like it and enjoy driving it, as after all that is what it's all about anyway, right?

Re: 14 and wants a fiero

I've gota give Indy props for 18 running Fieros. I'd also agre that the 4 banger isn't that bad. I liked how responcive my was, and even hotroding it I didn't have problems untill my water pump went out. Also the 4 gives you a lil more room to work around, stuff liek the alternatior on the v6 can be a pain to get in and out.
I'm trying to sell my v6 So there's a thread about it if your interested.
Having been thru a couple Fieros I'd say figure out what you want year (bodystyle), engine, tranny, etc. Then shop around. I found a guy with 3Fiero's in Centeral washington (2 parts one running) for $1100.

Re: 14 and wants a fiero

Well, the sub we picked out, which had a neon tube built in as you can see, was a perfect size to fit in the stock opening of the center console with the glove door removed. All I had to do was have a couple pieces made to fill in the corner gaps which also gave me a place to bolt down the sub itself. I then custom designed a spot on the side to allow me to reroute the wiring for the sub and power for the neon on the passenger side vent of the console. Since I didn't have to cut up the console at all, I did not have to relocate the computer that sits behind the console and everything works great. Better than expected actually

Oh, and the sub is a 10"

Re: 14 and wants a fiero

Check out these sites for the Fiero:
www.fierostore.com ------- Stock/Perf parts
www.v8archie.com -------- Chevy SB Swap and Body Kits
www.PISAFieroHQ.com ------- More Body Kits
Surf the webring and look at all the other cars.

And what ever you do DONT GET AN 84!!!!!!!
Lets just say they have a tendency to catch fire.
