I hope you all can appreciate this....

Man, I hope you guys laugh as hard at this as I did...

http://racing.kcgeek.net/albums/albu..._mcdonalds.jpg

Sorry if youve seen it already, but it was waaaaay to hilarious to not see if you havent already.

Dont want to leave this an empty post with just a picture so I guess Ill ask a semi-n00b question, if you all dont mind.

Ive ALWAYS been a RWD fanatic, since my very first car. Ive been stationed in Japan for almost a year now and have come to absolutely fall in love with my Skyline GTS-T. Yeah I know its not a GTR but I could give a shit less, because there is really no comparable car to it in the US, as far as power, body style, handling, and just pure fun to drive. Or so I thought. I have just happened to build an intrest in the 240sx and have been doing a decent job of researching its potential. Since it would cost me a minimum of 16 grand to take my Skyline back with me, I decided to scrap that idea. The 240sx seems like it could have all the potential of a skyline if done right. I want a fast car, but I REALLLY dont want a FWD, and not because of drifting. Yeah drifting is awesome, dont get me wrong but Im not going to be a poser and be like, d00d!! I want a badass drifting macheeen!!! Thats all I want my car for man, so I can go drifting with my homies on urban streetz and crash and die and kill a family in the process!!!! I just love the feel that a RWD car gives you as opposed to FWD, however fast it may be. They always say, its easier to push, than to pull, right?

Ok, enough rambling and onto my point. It seems like almost EVERYONE wants to put the SR20 in these things. Now, I read before that the SR20's powerband is suited more for track racing and the KA24 is more suited for dragging. It seems to me like it would be way more pricey for parts and harder to troubleshoot problems on an SR20 rather than the KA. Why exactly would you go through all the trouble of swapping the SR and having to worry about parts than just sticking with KA? Yes, I understand the SR was already built for boost, but is it really that much of a pain to turbo a KA that you would swap it? Has anyone here actually made the swap to the SR, and does it make that much of a difference? And also, has anyone boosted their KA with any success? All opinions welcome. I appreciate ANY info, as I will more than likely be purchasing a 240 when I go back to the states, and I want to know as much as possible. Thanks guys

Re: I hope you all can appreciate this....

Pixors of your GTS-T!
Now about SR20s there mean ass motors i've ridden in one with just swap and cat back it flew. It is really upgradealbe great powerband. It is harder to do then a KA-T true but its *pure* for JDM conversion. A lot of people dont need the extra power a KA-T makes.
Alot of PPl do KAT CAT or even RB swaps so just keep reading up and you'll see whats best for you also Welcome to AF!

the DOHC ka24 is just as well suited for a turbo as the SR, except its compression ratio is a bit higher. They both have oil squirting pistons, but the KA even has a iron block with a bit more strength, plus it has more displacement and probably a better flowing head(people say the KA24DE head is one the best stock designs they have ever seen)

I think the KA24de is a great motor.

Re: I hope you all can appreciate this....

The only real problem would be that the ka needs a stronger bottom end to handle boost above somewhere around 12 psi. I would go with the ka just because it has higher displacement and parts are cheaper. The timing system sucks though. I don't know if that is a factor on the SR.

how does the timing sytem suck? Id take timing chain over a belt any day of the week, plus the KA24de uses the same style setup on the valvetrain as a Supra, so you can't say it sucks and can't make power LOL.

It just starts making that chain rattle after a while of use. I would definately take a chain over a belt too, but the tensioners wear out and the factory doesn't even call it a recall. They just say that you have to take the guard on top off. Ive already done that and the rattle is back. Some mod can definately be made on the system.

hahah Thx for the welcome.

I appreciate all the input. Yeah you guys just reiterated just what I was thinking. Why would you go through all the "trouble" of a swap, and having to worry about JDM parts, when you have a perfectly good engine sitting right there!

One of you mentioned making the bottom end a little stronger, I noticed realnissan has forged pistons and connecting rods, does anyone know of any company making sleeves for this block? That would make me WAY more comfortable turbo'ing the shit out of one of these motors. Or even at 12 psi. Better to be safe than sorry.

Want pics of my Skyline? Ahh ok... Lemme go wash it real quick, its kinda dirty

Oh yeah yeah yeah.... I forgot to ask this. I know the RB20 and the SR20 are different, but I know the RB20's have problems with the coils, MAFS and.... this little box that sits on top of the valve cover near the firewall, I think its called a direct ignition control module or something. Do the SR's have problems with these parts going bad as well? And when you swap the MAFS on the SR20's with the one from the 300z's, are those pretty reliable? Lemme know. Thx guys

I thought I had heard someone mentioning someones KA blowing between cylinders 2 and 3. The post might have been about someones drag car though, I dont recall.

Re: I hope you all can appreciate this....

Kinda off topic, but mcdonald's "i'm lovin it" slogan and ads really annoy me.
I would def turbo my KA instead of gettin an SR, but my engine is really old and has seen a lotta miles. But gettin it rebuilt and puttin in a turbo on top of that is a bit too pricey for me, so I'm thinkin bout just swappin to the SR.
Sometimes I read this Japanese magazine called "Trendy" and I noticed the new Skyline looks a lot like the Infiniti G35...is that your model? Looks very luxurious, I'd so much rather have that than my 240sx.

The KA is well suited for turboing stock. If you ever take one apart, you will notice how beefy the rods are, and you will notice that the pistons are dish-style. The crankshaft is mounted on these two huge fuckin bars instead of typical caps. The cylinders have oil squirters built in. The compression ratio is low.

It will do excellent with boost if you rebuild it, as it was overbuilt in the first place. If you have a dual cam (91+), you can use an exhaust cam from any KA24DE and replace the intake cam for another 20 or so horses. You can realize even more power from that ludicrously cheap mod if you turbo it or even I/H/E.

Naw dude, they made a whole bunch of different versions of the Skyline. The GTS-T has an RB20DET in it which is a straight 6, 2.0 liter turbo, only RWD, they also made sedan models, non turbo GTS, GT4's which are non turbo 4WD models, then they have the GTR's. The NEW skylines look like ass. They look just like the new 350z's and I dont believe they are turbo at all. I know they have a 2.5 liter engine in them, but GOD are they ugly.

COMPLETELY off topic. Doesnt anyone know #1 how to f'kin post pics on here? and #2 shrink them down so I can actually put them up? I just took some pics of my car and wanna post them

Yeah click on "gallery" to upload pics. I use photoshop to shrink my images. When you wanna post a pic, find the adress of the pic and use the "insert image" button when you post.
