Question gas pedal sticking on '01 4cyl.

Has anyone had a problem with the gas pedal/cable sticking when cold?
For now, it only sticks in the idle position. The dealer hasn't heard of the problem before.
Thanx.

Re: gas pedal sticking on '01 4cyl.

it doesn't matter if dealer heard about these problems or not they obligated to fix it under warranty (if your car still under warranty). if you feel dealer trying to avoid you until your car's warranty is out, you can call Honda's customer service and file complain, Honda dealer don't like when customer do that.
if you're not happy with current dealer you can always use any other Honda dealer.

In defense of your dealer ... there is a bulletin out about this issue ... but it does not apply to your car. It still is what is wrong with your car though.

Tell him to look at bulletin #01-004 Throttle Body Cleaning.

We have to do this cleaning on a lot of the cars that pass through our dealership. I am not sure why Honda has not made this bulletin apply to the later vehicles ... but they still have the same issue as the ones that the bulletin covers.

Here is an excerpt from the bulletin:

SYMPTOM

When the engine is first started after the vehicle has sat overnight, customers may “feel” the release of the throttle plate through the accelerator pedal. Some describe it as a one-time “pop” sensation.

Customers may have trouble explaining this phenomenon because:

• They can’t repeat it because it only happens one time, when the engine is cold.
• The accelerator pedal works normally at all other times.
• There are no other symptoms.
• It may be intermittent, happening only during cooler weather.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The symptom is caused by normal buildup of contaminants in the throttle bore, combined with expansion and contraction of the throttle body.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Partially remove the throttle body, and clean it with Honda carburetor cleaner or throttle plate and induction cleaner.

I can guarantee you that if he does this ... you will no longer feel that sticking in the morning (for a while that is).

Thanks! I had trouble trying to figure out the sticking point. The cables and pedel seemed ok, but the sticking sensation isn't noticable when turning the throttle by hand at the t.body.
thanks again.

I have had this problem every winter. The dealer charges $75 to fix it. They tell me this happens when the local refinery changes it's mixture from summer blend to winter blend. I am sure it would be easy to fix it and am too lazy.

So a can of carb cleaner, an adjustable wrench, and a six pack of beer, and I'm good to go! ;-)
