Question tacoma gas pedal sticks on take off

Hi both my father and i have tacoma's.Mine is a 2000 and his is a 99.Both have the same problem. When starting from a dead stop the gas pedel sticks and then lets go and your head gets jerked back a little bit.Not a big problem just annoying it is fine once you moving but usally the same thing when leaving from a traffic signal or dead stop.Feels like a little catch for about a 1/4" then lets go and truck takes off quick.Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Hello Kflagg. In response to your pedal sticking, I too have a 99 Tacoma that I bought new, and I also had trouble with my gas pedal sticking. I solved this problem by taking all of the slack out of the throttle cable as possible without altering the idle. Not only was this free and easy, but it also improved throttle response. Maybe this will help.

Re: tacoma gas pedal sticks on take off

I had the same problem with my 98 Prerunner. My sister also had the same problem with her 98 (or so) RAV4.

The problem is due to a sticking butterfly valve in the throttle body, which is connected directly to your gas pedal.

Basically you have to clean the butterfly valve in the throttle body. Do this by removing the piping from the air filter leading into the throttle body. Then spray carb cleaner/fuel injector cleaner into the throttle body while manually opening and closing the valve either by hand or by someone sitting in the vehicle pushing the gas pedal.
