Exclamation BIG Idle problem...NEED HELP!!!

My 94 Accord EX 5sp. is having a HUGE idling problem. For the last couple of weeks, the car has been idling at around 1200 RPM'S!!! It will jump anywhere from 1200-1700 (up and down) for a period of time when in neutral, or when the clutch is in. What the heck is going on? It's getting pretty annoying, especially when the car is SUPPOSED to idle at around 660-750! Please help!?

This does this only when its cold outside? If so, its a bad thermostat. I had this problem for 5 years before I figured it out. Its an easy enough and inexpensive enough fix.

I think what you are experiencing here is a bad IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE ... or IAC MOTOR as it can sometimes be known.

Re: BIG Idle problem...NEED HELP!!!

Yep, you're right. I checked around before messing with the thermostat and found that I needed to cap off one of the vacuum hoses hooked up to the original air intake assembly/filter. Fixed the problem in 2 seconds flat.
