93 camry engine light

I just bought a 93 camry with 145,000 miles for my daughter. It runs great but the engine light on the dash just came on. The person I bought it from said it had just been serviced. I'm trying to avoid taking it to the dealer in the area. Are there things that should be done or should we just keep driving it?

Did the light just came on and stayed on or it came and went? Mine on 95 just comes on
for a brief period of time at startups and then goes away and stays away. Dealer is not your ONLY option, ya know. You could stop by the local shop and ask them specifically to test for ( measure )the oil pressure on the warm engine. If you could look over their shoulders while they come up with the measurements it would be even better, just to keep them hones. Because it could be just the sending unit gone bad, which is obviously the best outcome for you & not so profitable for them….
In any case I would not drive it until I know what it is, could be expensive test.

Hope this helps,

Re: 93 camry engine light

hey
you can go to any garage and they should be able to tell you what code is stored, from there you will have an idea what is wrong, the dealer would be an option to, just to find out what is wrong, i would assume with the mileage, probable o2sensor, but could be anything, let me know which code and i will give you better idea
or you could get the code yourself, i could instruct if you want

If it turns out to be the EGR valve you can clean that out instead of buying a new one. Just use carb cleaner and make sure you clean the ports out that go to the intake also. These tend to get clogged with carbon. Just don't spray into the vacume lines.
