Re: how much $$

g-14? never heard of that one... take out all the old stuff, replace oil lines, some porting, put it all back together, possibly an EGT tap into the ex. mani... $500-1000 labor might be a good guess. i have no idea about that turbo, but there are a couple of extra mods that go along with upgrading a turbo that will cost you too. it seems by the price that it is a pretty big turbo, so you are going to need to get into a whole mess of extra's...

yeah... here's the link http://www.dsmparts.com/dsm_turbos.htm it says that you also need the converter kit. which costs about 250-300 bucks. so that means i am looking at around $3000 to get that badboy ready.

Re: how much $$

"and will be a killer 1/4 mile turbo for those brave enough to run it on their DSM" take that line with heed. it means you have to have MANY supporting mods to run it SAFE. huge intercooler, MAS setup, DSMLink or AEM EMS, bigger fuel pump and pressure regulator, upgraded LSD's...

Re: how much $$

Being a "noob" as you say, are you sure you want to start off with a GT-14 turbo? Did you just scroll down the webpage and look for the biggest, most expensive turbo? That turbo is is pretty much a "race only" turbo and most likely not going to be a good "street car " turbo. If you are currently worrying about how much installation is... you got another problem ahead of you...... THE SUPPORTING MODS . This is not a turbo that you just bolt on and run off to the local street races. You'll need lots of other mods to even run it correctly. Here's a quick list of thing's you need to even think about using this turbo for what it's intended for....(up to 600hp)

-660cc injectors.. 550cc is bare minimum
-fuel pump
-AFPR.. (adjustable fuel pressure regulator)
-turbo-back exhaust
-some type of fuel management. AFC or MAF-T, AEM, etc.
-ported exhaust manifold and o2 housing
-external wastegate .. or a really good internal set-up
-boost controller
-front mount intercooler
-upgraded intercooler piping

There's more you could or should have (clutch, good BOV, etc.) but the list above is what you'll need .. esp the fuel related mods.
I would recommend for new DSM'er, going with a 16g set-up. Just because it's not the most expensive or biggest you can get, it is still a very good turbo. You can run high 11's on the 16g ( big or small).
If you just bolt on the GT-14 with and nothing else with it, you get beat by a stock DSM all day.

Re: how much $$

I just read that you weren't gonna really get it anyways. But, to answer your question, installation of it isn't much harder than doing any turbo. I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred bucks at any shop to install one. But then again, it would need custom parts, (I/C piping, water/oil lines) to install it. Even if it came as a complete bolt on kit, I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred bucks to have it done. The size of the turbo itself shouldn't really affect how much instalationl costs.

Re: how much $$

Thats the turbo I run essentially, though I asked for a TDO6H exhaust side and its not ball bearing. Same compressor wheel though. For an idea of what you need to run this turbo, check my mod list on the site in my sig (POSracing). I usually install turbos for about 100 bucks. Its only 2 hours work at most for that turbo. The thing you need to worry about (I know you arent actually planning to get it, but I'll amuse you ) is all the stuff you need to support that turbo. It has taken me a couple years to get it all done. Mainly for the cost of each item. A FMIC install is a full days work, and will cost a significant amount of money to have done. I would charge at least as much as I do for a clutch job, which is 250-300 bucks. And thats a steal. At 60 bucks an hour, a "shop" will be much higher. And thats just one piece of the puzzle...

This is the tricky thing about turbos. They are all about the same price once you get to 20g size. So people are tempted to go bigger. But its all the little stuff that will nickel and dime you to death to support the big turbos. I have more invested in my fuel system than most poeple have in all thier mods, and its just a 100 dollar 255 pump. Its all the little stuff

Also, the GT14 is an SBR turbo. Might as well go to SBR and get it for 1300 (www.slowboyracing.com)

Re: how much $$

front mount intercooler

manifold is the piece that connects things to the block (on intake and exhaust side). Exhaust manifold on a n/t is usually called a header.
