Did you do the MPFI wiring yourself?
Check all your connections and make sure they're good and solid.

Re: code 16
I've got that code also. Does ur car ever bog down like not accelerate as fast when u get that code? I was getting that code also but for me it was just because the plugs weren't staying on. I lost all the metal clips that hold the injector plugs on so when I would go over a bump, they would pop off, my car would bog because their's no fuel being injected into that cylinder only air and spark, then I would get the code 16 popping up. But it would be fine if i popped the hood and pushed down the injector plugs all the way. I just actually fixed it today cuz I went to the junkyard and got the metal clips. Come to find out, the clips can be sourced from almost any hyundai, nissan, and saab as well as honda and acura. The style of injector plugs on a honda/acura are called "bosch" plugs. Many different makes use bosch plugs for alot of their sensors. I got mine from some sensors on a hyundai wiring harness.

sorry to hijack but my ecu is throwing this code as well. the difference with my car and other cars that are throwing this code in this thread is that my car won't start. the car cranks but won't turn over. i also noticed that when i turn the ignition switch to the on position, my instrument cluster does not light up. any help with diagnosing this would be very appreciated.
BTW, i've just recently replaced my main relay, igniter, and coil. My car is DPFI if that makes any difference. |

Re: code 16
Hey, thanks for that. Mine is throwing a code 16 also. That's how I found this forum, I was looking for troubleshooting tips. My car runs fine, but my check engine light comes on. It goes off for days at a time then comes on again, until this week. Now it comes on every day about 5 minutes after I start driving it. How hard is an 02 sensor to replace and are they expensive? I bought the Chilton's book for this car, but haven't tried to do anything to it yet other than change the intake.

my car was givin me the same code, and i took it to the dealer, they said it was the main relay, which controls both ignition and fuel delivery. So i bought a new relay, about 37 bucks if i remember correctly, after a bit of ninja body folding to fit myself down under the dash and change it, i havent had a problem since, no more code 16 and engine doesn't run as rich.
Hope this helps! |

Re: code 16
Hey, thanks for the tip! I'm determined to get to the bottom of this thing. I took mine to my mechanic and the light will never come on when he's looking at it. He said not to worry about it if the car seems to run good, but I can't stand that light shinning back at me all the time. I bought the Chilton book and joined this forum and come hell or high water, I'm going to figure this thing out.
So is it pretty easy to change the main relay then, besides the obvious disadvantage of location? Do I have to buy the main relay from the dealer or do places like Advanced Auto sell it? |

omg that's funny.......... but seriously. o2 sensors are really easy to replace..just unscrew old one put it in the wire and scew it back in...(if it's not oem o2 sensor you may have to splice it into wire because it wont' have the connector pin thingy) just make sure to get a good connection and it should be good...I've found that the universal ones work just as well ..in my experiance anyways as oem.

Re: Re: Re: code 16
Well, I replaced my main relay and reset the code. The behavior has changed, but I'm still getting the light. Now, the light comes on at exactly the same spot every weekday morning. I drove it all weekend and it never came on, for the past three days it has come on about 5 minutes after I leave in the morning. I can turn the car off right then and restart it and won't see the light again until the next morning.
