So who actually RUNS the TOUGES around here?

I'm just curious... I run them around SilverwoodLake, BigBear (a lil' icy right now), and Angeles Crest (too icy right now). I used to use my ol' 240sx (RIP) but now I got my Z monster (I don't drift this). Now my car is auto so it's not as fun.
What, where, when, how? I wanna know! I don't see too many cars out there... only an occasional Subaru or two and one FC Rx7 (Ryo Takahashi?) and I don't know if he even drifts. I know there is "TOUGE" team called "TEAM NIGHT-KIDS" (check out their websight if you have not already... some nice cars!) but I'm not so sure where they operate. I know a local Z club (EmpireZ) that does a run every-year in Angeles but they don't do anything special but drive through... your input would be appreciated! Where do you guys back East run?

Well, I've never heard it called a "touge", mostly because the guys who used to run it regularly were sports car guys and hot hatch enthusiasts back the 80's (Golf GTi's, Corolla GT-S's, the occasional Cosworth Vega or Chevette Scooter, my dad's Omni GLH), but Nickel Plate Diagonal is a nice twisty bit of tarmac out here in Ohio.

The guys mostly just ran against their stopwatches since it's only a two lane road, but's like someone grabbed a section of the old Nordschleiffe Nurburgring and planted it right in the middle of rural Ohio. Plenty of elevation changes, some great fourth and fifth gear sweepers and lots of second gear tight stuff.

It's a lot of fun.

There was also Old Ford Road. That was fun because it was a really narrow two lane (no shoulder) road that dropped down sharply into a set of 90 degree corners. The really fun part was that you only had a mile and a half of road to really race on until you got to this one lane steel deck bridge. So the race was whoever got to the bridge first. My dad rolled his first GLH racing on Old Ford Road up against my grandpa's Celica Supra. My mom and my grandma had a lot to say about that one.

i've gone up to see a guy do it, it was pretty cool he is supposedly the only guy around here (park city) that actually drifts he had a 240sx, but it was kinda a while ago when i wasn't into drifting as much, it was about 7:00 pm, and wasn't dark yet, and the road is windy and kinda has sharp curves, its about a mile long from top to bottom, and two people who live at the top share it as a driveway (rich bastards)

[color=black]HAHA! that's awesome. my dad is into cars and trucks, but nothing that was made after 1980. he's a muscle head punk, and he sucks at life, so we don't really talk much about cars, but i def have his knack for mechanics.

I have a 1997 honda accord and i live in southern CT. i was wondering where people around here go? i've only seen ricers out here in guilford and in new haven. long warf is right between the river and highway, but there are cops there. i dunno where to go to meet up with people who are good at drifting (see my drift post) and dragging. where are you all?

I've been known to tear up Trabuco Canyon Road... Santiago Canyon and of course Ortega Highway which is 22 miles of twisty heaven. Too bad its patroled big time by CHP.

I hope to travel back up to Mt. Baldy, that's a fun road about 11 miles of fun stuff.

Ha! If you like those 11 miles... you'll LOVE Angeles Crest Highway's 60+ miles of twisties! Ever been? I think those are the twistiest in California and no COPS (only a few RANGERS but they don't really care) but if you have an accident out there... your screwed! You should check it out someday when the ice and snow clear... maybe you'll see me up there.

I banged up my ol' 240 (RIP) pretty bad... ripped my whole front bumper off and I needed an alignment really bad when I steered into the mountain trying to drift. I have not had a chance to run my Z-Monster up there yet... only around BigBear and SilverWood...

I hate Hon-Duh's... but I love the Integra Type R. I want to build one for the touge. I think they are one of the quickest, lightest cars for touge.

Nah, haven't had the chance to run Angeles Crest. Not sure my Z would last 60+ miles of twisties... not the best gas milege.

The ITR is nice, but if you've seen Best Motoring International videos and their Touge battles. You'd know the best cars they've tested so far are the Amuse S2000, the Spirits MR-S... and the Kei-Office S15.

Those things are by far the quickest I've seen in the tight confounds of the 'Touge'.

Of course I've seen them! But I cannot afford an MRS, an S2000, or an S15! ITR is the next thing... and plus who can beat me if I build one? A Subaru, maybe? I want a WRX or STI soooo bad too! In 5 more years maybe... or if the SKYLINE GTR ever comes State-side! <~ One of those!

Yeah... I never have gone all the way through Angeles. Starting in Wrightwood I think it takes you past LaCresenta? But if you ever go up there watch out for me!

I think I might buy an MR spyder when they're cheap,used.

I have a hard time finding backroads that I would call quality. Quantity, sure. There's a road around this heavilly populated lake called Summit Lake that is really twisty. Too many dogs/slow cars/ children, so I stopped going there. I live in Olympia WA. Anybody know of any great driving roads in Washington state? Supposedly there's one or two good passes. I need to do some scouting missions.

I don't like the Spyder's that much... I really dislike convertibles! Do they even make the hard-top here? Get the SW11 or SW22 MR2's... those are kinda cool!

spyder handles great and is a great car... not superb in the look department... but they can be made to look very cool

I'm in central CT and there's a couple good roads but seeing as how there's not really any mountains I can't do much actual mountain racing. The one I go to is a maintanence road that runs between two resevoirs so there's little worry of other cars but I try to be careful. Unless you've got someone on the other side of the road with a radio DO NOT DRIFT! It's always more fun when you go home with a car in one piece.

sietekk: Where in CT are you? I'd love to do some drifting. There's going to be a lot of drift events in New Jersey also, first one is March 27th I think. I'll definitly be there. If you have AIM my sn is coreyirancid if you want more information or anything.

I almost hit a cat about an hour ago while out running around a local neibourhood (not the best idea) but with the lack of good tarmac 'round 'ere you gotta get while the gettin's good.
