Exclamation Different Brake Light Problem

I have a 1995 Windstar, who for the pastfew months has been blowing the fuse or the brake lights. Well today fixing the fuses does not help and there are no brake lights and you have to putz around to get the van in gear. I have changes the brake light swith to no avail, HELP

You have a short to ground somewhere in the brake light circuit . It typically would not be the switch. You will need to locate & trace the wire harness for the brake lights to see where the bad connection or cut in the insulation is . This could also be caused by a bad lamp socket in one of the tail lights. I'd start troubleshooting by testing the brakes with one lamp at a time removed from the brake lights. Which ever one stops blowing the fuse when removed would be your problem area.

Finnally solved it! The Previous owner had installed an after market Cruse control. and in doing so wire tied the brake cable with the cruise wires near the steering column, the rubbing of the steering column actually wore thru the wire to the brake switch.
