Help! Transmission ???

Long reason why, but I had to change out my flywheel. So I go through the long grueling process of it, and break a cable in the process. This cable is comming down from a little back and right of the carborator, underneath the air filter. Then it runs to the transmission and has about a 3 inch boot on it with threading on the end to screw into the transmission right above the pan. It's on the passenger side of the truck.

We didn't unscrew it while dropping the transmission so the transmission was hanging by that one cable and it broke in the middle of the boot. There is a hook comming out of the transmission pan which hooks into an Eye (like a needle eye) inside that boot on that cable. We couldn't get it back together without doing it half-ass so we need a new cable.

All the local autopart stores have no idea what the hell it is, so I figured I would ask here. I need this truck running ASAP so please be prompt.

Thanks a lot,

P.S. - If you don't know what it is then get under your Blazer and look for me pllllleeeaaasseeee

you dont say what tranny, but if 4spd then its the 'throttle valve' cable and you NEED this to make it run without death, if a 3spd then its a kickdown cable and it will run but shift at horrible points. goto a tranny shop

as it turns out, it was the Detent cable. I hooked it all back up and it runs fine, except for one problem: switching between 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd gears the RPMs goes to high before it switches. This is a concern for me because 1 the rpms are in the red almost and 2 it doesnt sound good :-P.

Any suggestions? I think I just have to adjust the detent cable that hooks into the carborator but I aint to sure.

Re: Help! Transmission ???

try loosening the cable there is a spring loaded tab you push on the bracket holding it to the throttle body and push the notched plastic piece forward. the cable determines when to shift based on throttle position if it's too tight it'll do exactly what your experiencing. good luck

so its only a 3 spd? if the tranny is doing what you now describe (a flare) then look at the vacuum modulator which is on the thm350 3 spd, if the tranny is a 4spd still, this detent cable is really called the throttle valve cable and its adjustment is CRITICAL for where it raises line pressures. if adjusted properly and it flares still, you have a slow servo applying a clutch pack (more than one from the sound) this WILL destroy it quickly
