Question Problems with alignment after lowering

Have anyone here experience problems aligning(?) their car after lowering?
I have a friend with a primera with Intrax and stocks shocks, and he has some kind of problems when trying to fix the camber. Have anyone have the same problem? Have anyone solve it?

You can't correct the camber on G20's without the "Third Link" camber kit. Of course you can always drill out the arm and weld washers, but that seems like a little too much work. As far as stock adjustment...can't do it.

www.prestigeautomotive.co.nz Consists of two replacement third link arms, fitted with eccentric urethane bushes, coarsely adjustable at one end, and finely adjustable the other end. Price runs about US$165 + shipping. Check out their site.

I also know where to get eccentric rear bushes for the lower front suspension arm - this enables CASTER adjustment. They are made by Superpro and run between US$12 - 30 each + shipping.

Contact: [email protected] or website: http://www.georgestock.co.nz These guys do heaps of Primera stuff, have a Koni workshop for custom work and also do KYB, King Eibach etc. With the exchange rate at NZ$ = approx. 0.43 US$, it might be worthwhile for you guys to source some stuff from here ...

i'm definitely interested. i'm just wondering if this would be the best way to correct my alignment since the car has previously been in an accident. it seems like it might be my only option.. plus the price is just right. now i'll just have to wait for my tax return and i'll order most likely. T4, should i work with you on this deal, or should i go directly through prestige automotive?

If your car has been in an accident, the best way to correct your alignment is to fix the car. You shouldn't need to use aftermarket parts to fix a problem caused by an accident. The car was able to be aligned correctly when it rolled off the assembly line and should be exactly the same if you get it properly fixed. Adjusting the front suspension to the proper specs won't do you a bit of good if the entire car is twisted or crooked. I'd take it to a frame straightener and have them make sure the car is completely straight and true before you start replacing suspension components.

If I were to purchase them on your behalf, then 12.5% GST would apply. Much simpler and cheaper to deal directly through Prestige Automotive and/or George Stock & co via e-mail. You should not be charged GST if you deal directly with them since it is an overseas order. I have no idea what shipping will cost for these.

the thing is lowering a car always makes the camber more negative..which in moderation actually increases handling on curves because u get more tire contact..the problem however is that the insides of ur tires are going to wear more than the rest which means u have to periodically demount and flip the tire on the rim so that both sides will wear evenly..but if ur tires r directional then i don't think u can do that

MitchQ45...
hehe i guess you'd be right with most cars..but that is not true with our G20...esp the p11...when you lower a p11...the design of the suspension will actually give you a positive camber increase...
which very often will end up with a positve camber (fronts)...which really kills the handling

So is there enough adjustment on the P11 to lower the car and set stock alignment specs? Do I need this "third link" kit to do so?

I just bought Luke's P11 w/SR20DET and it has the JIC coilovers. I'm not too knowledgeable about P11 suspension specifics (though I have read the blurb in SCC several times), but the car is lowered and the outside edges of the front tires are wearing pretty quickly. Luke mentioned getting some sort of performance oriented alignment before, so I was thinking of raising the car just a tad in the front and getting a more tire-friendly alignment.

I'm not interested in driving the car on the track (yet). What do I need to know about P11s before I take it to the shop? (And Luke if you read this, what was the name of the shop you recommended again?)

If anyone can point me to any web resources on the P11 or past threads where I can learn more, I'd appreciate it.

Dan
