Lightbulb a few questions about my 87 camaro

(My car is a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro With a 305, V8,Carburator)
Should I get glasspacks or a muffler? my car has the Y-pipe set up. So may different people tell me differnt things about the whole muffler/glass pack thing. such as that i can only put one glasspack on, or that if i get a new muffler i wouldnt be able to have the two pipes come out to dual exaust. and some people even tell me that i can put glasspacks on it. I am extremely confused and dont know what to beleive. Your input would be extremely appreciated. such as what kind of mufflers or glasspacks. and which on i should get.

My car is also carburated so what kind of stuff should i get to improve
the performance of my car?

if you've got a Y-pipe setup, you can only put one glass pack on it. if your replacing a muffler with a glass pack, you'l have to measure the length of the muffler and the pipe diameter and give that info to the parts store. if you want 2 glasspacks you'll have to run dual exhaust from the manifolds back. i'd recomend having a muffler shop do this, cause fitting dual exhaust under a camaro is a bitch since there's not much room to work with.

Re: a few questions about my 87 camaro

dual exhaust on a third gen is not worth the effort in my opinion, a mandrel bent 3in system is adequate for just about every street driven third gen i have seen. the stock system goes from manifolds, to Y-pipe, back to the muffler, then out as two pipes. i reccomend a bolt in cat back system from a reputable company, its easy, cost effective, and can free up 10-20hp. as far as sound, as i said in your other post, do yoru homework, listen to as many as you can, and pick the one that you like best.

Re: a few questions about my 87 camaro

I dont have tons or money. all i want to spend on this stuff is around $150 or so. and that is with labor and everything. if i get glass packs or mufflers will i still be able to have the two pipes coming out or the mufflers cause some guy said that i would only have one ehaust pipe. All these diffrent people people at the muffler shops have told me diffrent thing and i am so confused. so i want to know your opinions and they would be greatly appreciated.

Re: a few questions about my 87 camaro

well exactly, from the cat back to the muffler it is a single pipe. then two pipes come out of the muffler. so if you are xing out the muffler, it would be a single pipe system. unless you split the pipe on a custom job. for your price i would look into dynomax. i have a 180$ system on my RS, not very loud, but a very deep mellow sound that gets lots of compliments.

Re: a few questions about my 87 camaro

Well it dosent really matter what size you have now, but a new 4 barrel, and new intake. true duals, disconnect air conditioning, theres probaly a chip you can get, a mild performance cam and lifters....

Re: a few questions about my 87 camaro

all of em. i mean, most companies have more than one offering, so its hard to say just one sound per nameplate. flowmaster for example has like 10-12 different mufflers. like i say alot, probly to the ponit of annoying people, go the the websites for brand name mufflers, and they probly have suond files you can listen to, that way you can make your desition.
