Re: anyone who knows anything read this

It depends on your definition of "small mods". I think at your level, you're going to be looking at headwork (go to a reputable head porter!), cams/springs/retainers, Indy intake manifold, cam gears. Taking weight out of the car will also make your car faster is every way, and doesn't cost a thing. Being that you have about the heaviest G1 Neon, you could take a bunch of weight out.

Also, why haven't you gone with an aftermarket PCM, like the MP unit? It's like $200 (or so), and is very easy to install.

Re: anyone who knows anything read this

yeah pcm is a good for a few horses, I would also get some solid or stiff motor mounts, eliminates wheel hop and gives you better launches. getting rid of weight helps in every way, acceleration, handleing, braking.

dont bother with an indy intake manifold, they dont show any gain over a p&p stock dohc manifold.

some street slicks will also help lower your 1/4 times

Re: anyone who knows anything read this

I forgot about the MMs, good catch.

So where did you see that the Indy intake doesn't show any gains over a stock, ported manifold? It doesn't look very good from a flow-quality standpoint, but I've always heard it was a very large improvement over anything else.

here it is http://www.neons.org/forums/viewtopi...highlight=indy

the indy is not as bad as I thought but if you already have a p+p intake mani I would spend the money on an aluminum flywheel instead.

Re: anyone who knows anything read this

Huh. That's a shame. I knew there were fitment issues, but I didn't know they weren't all that with power. Looks like a Fast Fabrications intake might be the way to go.

Re: anyone who knows anything read this

sorry i do have a do have an a/fx ecu, and polyurethane motor mounts i totally forgot about that. as far as my intake goes their wouldnt be enough gain if any with the indy. my intake is ported to 60 mm tb i dont think the indy is that high and for the money mines ok. as far as weight issues go what can i do to the rt to lose some weight. thanks for all your help keep the info coming. if anyone wants to do that jeep tb swap forget it just by one their only about 200 dollars. for the price and the pain in the ass fabbing i did to the jeep one i would of bought one from modern performance

Re: anyone who knows anything read this

Not a performance mod per say but Short shifter. Also by weight reduction I think they meant lighter hood, fenders, wheels, spare tire, trunk. I also did not see anything you listed for exhaust. It seems like your getting the air in. Its equally important to get the air out.

There's lots you can do to drop weight off the car, but it depends greatly on how far you want to go and how much money you can spend. Slapping carbon fiber body parts helps, but it really doesn't do THAT much, and is very expensive. You can rip the back seat out, scrape sound deadening off, remove speakers... but you may not want to go that far.

There was another thread in this forum about weight redux, and it had a link outlining Neon parts and how much weight you can drop by removing them. Look around, it was pretty recent.

Re: anyone who knows anything read this

It's a good mod if you buy quality stuff. But it can make your car a bit harder to launch, even though the engine will rev quicker. My advice: don't go cheap.

Re: anyone who knows anything read this

Fidanza and Unorthodox makes them, and so do a few "other" companies. I'd lean a bit more toward Unorthodox, because I've heard that Fidanza's quality can be a little hit or miss.
