Question D15B2 worth fixing up? Or will i do much better with a swap?

Hey
I just got a 1988 honda civic lx about 3 months ago. It only had 56,000 miles on it and now it has 65,000 miles. The D15B2 is brand spanking new shape and in excellent condition. It's pumping out all of the 92 horses it was rated at. I was just wondering if this motor is worth spending a few grand on, fixing up, or is it just better if i get an engine swap for it??? IF so, what kind of an engine best suits this vehicle??

You can fix it up with a MPFI swap (get the Si intake manifold/TB/sensors/injectors, injector resistor box, distributor and ECU) and mod it out with intake/header/exhaust and cam..

You should get more power than the stock Si..

The problem is going to be in that 3.88 R&P in your transmission.... the Si tranny has the same 1-5 gears but a much more aggressive final drive....

Hmm oops, you have the 4 door? Then I'm not actually sure which R&P you have in there... It may not be so bad after all... but the D15B2 engine can be made into a stout little performer for very little money.. It won't be a dragster but it can exceed the stock Si's HP output with some basic effort (I/H/E and swapping the Si's MPFI EFI system is a good place to start.. then the cam will be icing on the cake.. you can basically go i.e. stock Si.. stock JDM ZC SOHC.. or aftermarket)...

well I dislike the D motors due to peppy isn't enough for me lol. Sure you can make it an awesome motor that'll zip along well.
But what are youre goals? maybe a nice B motor is alot better idea if your going to be seeking stang chasing. But the D motors can be made fast.

IMO find you another engine to build on the side, wen ready swap them out and keep the low milage b2 as a known good spare. being that you in a 4dr you need a lil more tq to get going. find yourself at least a d16a6 or if you can afford to, swap out to a b-series.

WHy would you need more torque with a 4dr. Hatches and 4drs in 4th gens, the weight is very close within 100lbs. Get at least a dohc zc if you can afford a b series. Plus a really old d16a6 which is prolly all you are going to find, will come from a high milage engine that isnt running at its full potential like the d15b2 is due to its low milage.

Re: D15B2 worth fixing up? Or will i do much better with a swap?

mpfi can go for 100-200 D16s junkyards ebay or from a company that does rebuilt like jasper.
B series are more common in tegs yes but the 99-00SI had a b16 in it also the SIRs in japan had b 16 motors in them the can run 500 for old b18a to 5k+ 18c spec R *JDM itr motor*
Best to get MPFI regardless due to fact if you swap you have that done already.
