Lousy Virus!

I have a virus (Win32/Hantaner). My anti-virus Resident Shield detects it had always pops up this damn message but when I run a scan, it doesn't detect and remove it. The virus is in my System Volume Info which I can't access. So I went into regedit and found it there and deleted it.... but its still here in the same damn location.

Can anyone help me manually remove it?

The virus comes from Kazaa and attaches itself to every file it can in your shared folder. Nearly everyone how has Kazaa either has or had this virus.

Re: Lousy Virus!

if this virus is sending an outgoing signal to someone, as a trojan kinda thing, then install any type of firewall and disable it, since it may be sending out sensitive information.

I already have a firewall.

Win32/HLLP.Hantaner.A is a virus spreading via infected files in P2P environment of KaZaA net. The virus is written in Delphi, and in order decreasing its length comprised by UPX. Comprised virus length is approximately 24 KB. Virus attacks computers with operating systems Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 and XP.

After the infected file is run Win32/HLLP.Hantaner.A uses the system register for finding the directory where KaZaA saves downloaded files. It uses for this purpose the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Kazaa\Transfer\Download Dir. Virus is also searching for the directory used by Internet Explorer browser for saving of downloaded files from Internet.. It accomplishes this using the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Download Directory.

Get kazaa lite its soooo much better. No popups, spam, spyware or anything.

Also, you could try getting ad-aware. It removes many spyware and spam programs and its free.

I reformatted(bye bye f*cking virus) a couple days ago and bought Norton AntiVirus and Firewall since Free AVG and Zonealarm did cut it. The only other antivirus Ive worked with besides AVG was McAfee and I really didn't like it, so I shopped around and picked Norton from reviews and press it has gotten.

Yeah but most of the files in Kazaa cary various viruses and spyware, so it doesn't matter what version you have you can still get the virus I had not to mention SEVERAL others. Im keeping Kazaa of my puter.

Yup I am one of the Kazaa owners who seems to have a virus. I no longer have the bar at the bottom of my screen, cant access control panel, no volume, cant play games, cant check my email, cant click any links or Internet Explorer goes down and so on. My comp is a mess and the problems seem to get worse by each passing day. Right now I can only use it for internet and AIM purposes only. Can someone help?
