Help.. lousy audio system

I dont know jack about audio systems. All i know is that the one in my car sucks a**. I dont know what to change, so can anyone refer me to a website or anywhere where i can find out what is what?

Im not looking for a stunning sound system that'll set me back £2k but i do want to upgrade the standard kit, and by a healthy margin
im thinking cd changer and err.... i dunno.... problem is that wont make it sound any better.. hehe.. told u i knew nothing

I don't know what kind of car you drive, but I can give you a little insight to what I did to my 94 Escort Wagon. Being a married man with two kids, I can't afford a high zoot mega-watt stereo system like some people can. lol But for about $270, (between 180 and 200 pounds depending on exchange rate) I have a very nice Pioneer DH-34 CD player (45 watts per channel), 6 1/2 inch / 200 watt 2-way speakers in the front doors (3 ways wouldn't clear my windows), and 5 X 7 inch / 220 watt 2 way speakers behind my rear seat (in stock location). I'm VERY pleased with the sound I get from this system. What you want to do is this. Find out where your factory speakers are located and what size they are, and find out what size your original stereo is. If you get an aftermarket stereo that is around the same size is the factory unit, things should fit with no problem. Also, get speakers that will fit in the factory location. Both of these tips will help make installation alot easier and cleaner looking than it would be to start cutting and placing things at random. One last bit of info. Get a harness that connects to your factory unit's connectors. This will make installation simpler also. Hope this helps!

No problem at all. I'd did give on little peice of wrong info though. The radio I have is a DH-24, not a DH-34. A DH-34 has 50 watts per channel and costs about $179.00 ( about 100 - 110 pounds). I had one of those in my Dodge Intrepid. A kick ass stereo for the money. Cheers! lol

ok upgrade to a decent head unit like above $200. then uprgade your door speakers. if you look at the stats look for the word "Db" there will be a number next to it. the higher the number the more efficient the piece of equipment will be and the better it will sound at high levels. later on id upgrade to some subs and amplify your door speakers just to fill in you range of sound. id say if you bought online a simple upgrade will cost you $400-600 bucks.

Actually The sensitivity level is more aimed towards how well a speaker uses power. Anything above 90 db is pretty good and wont require a boat load of power. On the other hand lower numbers require more power (usually subs have lower numbers than components)

Can anyone tell me if there is a fix for a 95 Dodge Intrepid head unit that has no display? Bought the car used and stereo works fine, just no display.

what everyone else has said, replace stock speakers, and a new headunit. then if you want to go further get a sub or two and amp the front to fill out your soundstage.
